Hi everyone,
My great-grandmother's maiden name was the slightly inelegant 'Moordaff'. I have unearthed this part of my family back to Harold Moordaff (1885-1937), through George Moordaff (1846-1925), through George Moordaff (1809-1873), to yet another George Moordaff, who married Margaret Armstrong. Some people on Ancestry have this George as being born in 1761 and dying in 1849, and Margaret b. 1770 and d. 1859, but no one has provided sources for these claims. They also describe that George as a merchant seaman or mariner. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
James Morton

Maryport Cemetery burial records at http://www.cumbria.gov.uk/archives/Online_catalogues/genindexes/indexes.asp
have a burial record for Margaret Moordaff aged 89 in 1859.
I don't think the cemetery was open in 1849, but if Margaret has a gravestone at the cemetery, George may be named on it, even if he wasn't buried there.
