 George Carter b abt 1840-43. Lincolnshire Fanny Elizabeth Barron, Barton Lincs both residing Ulceby he a farm labourer aged 21 she21 his father Francis Carter occupation Blacksmith hers joseph barron the winesses were samuel burton and mary ann carter. I am wanting to find george carters mother ie Franciss wife. This has been looked for extensively cant find them 1841 1851 census but think have found a Francis widower 1871 1881 ulceby. Who was Mary Ann Carter and who does john william carter grandson belong to Can anyonr help please thanks lnr

In the 1871 census George says he was born in Cuxwold.

There is this Francis CARTER (blacksmith) in the 1871 at Ulceby with grandson John William CARTER, however he is not widowed?

This is probably the grandson - birth reg Sept qtr 1856 Glanford Brigg (7a/576), no mother's maiden name recorded so possibly illegitimate.

St Nicholas, Ulceby by Barton, Lincolnshire
EDWIN HENRY Carter 10 Jul 1846, Parents FRANCIS/ANN, Fathers occp Blacksmith, abode Ulceby.

Unfortunately he is not much help to find them on Census as the poor boy was buried 14 Jul 1846

FreeBMD has a Edwin Carter Birth Reg Sept 1845 Louth

GRO Reference: 1845  S Quarter in LOUTH UNION  Volume 14  Page 471

Remember this is a maiden name and if Frances married Ann later in lihe she may have been widowed.

William Carter 1824 Hatcliffe is easy to find on Census after 1861 (1861 under Cartes)
Marriage is on Familysearch.Org to Sarah Grant 1855, his Father Francis.


Sorry cant find any of them 1841/1851 Census.

It would be interesting to know why they seemingly changed their name from CATER to CARTER, and also who Edward WAKEFIELD is and why he lodged with them for so many years.  :)

Elizth buried 1811 age 50, Wife of Edward
1811 to Mary MAGER, he was widowed, she was a Spinster
1 child from 1st Marriage that died young Elizabeth;
2 from second Marriage; Edward and Wakefield Wakefield
Father/Mother died young
Edward 1816 age 44
Mary 1819 age 46
Edward Snr was a Butcher
