Title: Births and marriages for this couple
Post by: MacGrigor on Saturday 28 April 18 21:49 BST (UK)
Hello,

Here are the couple:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGZX-PTZ

They baptised my ancestor in Broad Chalke in 1825, so the marriage would've predated that. Rough dates of birth are given on this record, so that should help with finding baptisms.

Thanks,

Adam

That is if there was a marriage or if it wasn't after her birth.

Hi the Ann Maidment b c 1848 as Grandaughter has mothers maiden name Stevens
So this family in 1841 census:-

Sarah 14
Maria 12
HO107/1170/ 4/21 / 6

Possible marriage 21st October 1820 Broad Chalke to Ann Hiscock witnesses Thomas Stevens & Wm Langtrey

Their are baptisms 1821 onwards for William/Ann in Broad Chalke, Maria Stevens married Elijah Maidment 6th March 1848 Broad Chalke

Thank you very much! Are there any baptisms for the pair i.e. in the 1790s?

I will look, so which of your ancestors was b 1825, and have you searched for the baptisms 1820 onwards in Broad Chalke for William/Ann?

My ancestor  was Jane Stevens, baptised in May 1825. I don't have access to any Broad Chalke records other than census ones on FamilySearch.

Thank you very much! Is there anything on William Stevens and Ann Hiscock individually i.e. when they were born? The census of 1851 gives rough birth dates.

A bit confused, if your ancestor is Jane who at baptism was amended to Mary, who/where did your Jane Stevens marry?

I have Jane Stevens down as marrying John Scott in 1848 in Maddington. She gave her place of birth as Broad Chalke on census records following that.

OK can see marriage 15th April 1848 Maddington her father being William Stevens and spouses James Scott, odd about the baptism though?
I also note John/Jane had a daughter in 1851 Ruth, who was baptised 7th October 1849 Maddington as Mary Ruth Scott and shown as that in 1861 census.

They are a tough family to follow. I can't get any further back than 1818 with the Scott family, with the marriage of Thomas Scott and Ruth George in Maddington.
