Hi trying to find a birth of a Michael john biddiscombe from Bridgwater or wells in Somerset
About 1947
Died in 1994
Any information of his parents please

I can't find a birth reg for him -only the death reg as groom posted
There are 2 marriages for Michael J Biddiscombe in the area -one in 1969 and one in 1977 -if either of these are the correct person then the marriage cert would give father's name and witnesses names may help too

There is also an obit. in the bridgewater mercury for m j biddiscombe, but on 14 Dec 2016 aged 66, maybe there were two.

Must have been as there is one in the 2005 electoral registers, who can't be philrmoon's as he died in 1994

It looks as if he remarried to Ivy M Stenson 12/1949 Bridgwater Somerset. In which case the first marriage must have ended soon after Michael was born. From his mother's next marriage when both names are given, I guess his mother reverted to her maiden name and that is why he was brought up using it.

I think you are right Grrom -there is a report in Taunton Courier & Western Advertiser date 1 Nov 1947 -decree nisi Frederick Albert Roy Witts of 13 King George Ave Bridgwater against Katharine (should be Kathleen) Mary Witts on the grounds of misconduct

I think you may have missed a generation
Michael's mother was Kathleen Mary Biddiscombe and her parents were Albert James Hugh Biddiscombe and Lilly Louisa Saunders
so they were his grandparents - maybe they brought Michael up?? and that is why he was known as biddiscombe

the marriage did not last and they divorced Nov 1947
Michael J was born earlier 1947 and was registered as Michael J Witts mothers maiden name Biddiscombe
It seems Michael J was reared as Michael J Biddiscombe
Kathleen remarried in 1949 to Michael Samotyj
they had 3 children together but one died in infancy
Kathleen's parents (and Michael John Biddiscombe's grandparents ) died in 1968 and 1970
Death reg Albert james Hugh Biddiscombe b 1891 died 1968
Lily Louisa Biddiscombe (nee Saunders) b 1893 died 1970

Hi, yes, I agree with Suz’s summary, it is complicated and I think as well that you have missed a generation and it was his grandmother who was a Saunders, not his mother. Where did you get the information that his mother’ name was Saunders?
Given also that the marriage broke up so soon after Michael’s birth, you really need to try and find the reasons given for divorce, it could be that there were doubts about Frederick Witts being his father.
