Title: What happened to Jesse Fulton ?
Post by: dfk on Monday 30 April 18 16:49 BST (UK)
I have a Jesse Fulton in my tree who I have never been able to find when he died or his resting place, he was born in 1795 in County Derry and served in the military and fought at Waterloo in 1815.
He had a daughter ( my 2x grandmother Mary Jane Fulton born about 1835 ) I don't know who Jesse married or if there was any other children but most of all I have never been able to find any thing about him ( beside Mary Jane ) after waterloo.
I have looked for many years now and am thinking that I probably just need another pair of eyes, someone out there may have something to share.

Thanking you.
David in New Zealand.

hi, I only know she was born in Ireland, all the records I have like census records she is recorded only as IRELAND, what I do know is she married a Robert Kearns 24th Oct 1858 in Belfast and her father named as Jesse Fulton who is a solider.
Of note Jesse is also recorded as a james in one form of the marriage record but I do have a copy of the cert with Jesse recorded.
Dave.

Here is a record:
Jane not Mary Jane and James, father rather than Jesse.
Jane is born abt 1835.
Are there any clues from the marriage - witnesses etc?
Is it a copy of the civil record you have with her father as Jesse?

I have found your family tree with all the documentation and notes so ignore my questions.  :)

Address at Marriage?

He might have been a Soldier then......but a farmer when he died!!

Hallmark, I have added to previous message.
There is a tree with lots of documentation re Jesse in army and the marriage certificate which says ‘soldier’.

One army record shows Jesse as a shoemaker and born Kilmore, Derry

Yes that will probably be my tree , i tryed to post a copy of the cert but wont load , wrong size ?
but it can be seen in my tree on that website, look under the names Robert Kearns 1829-1901 or Mary Jane Fulton 1835-1910 and there marriage 24 Oct 1858 in Belfast.
the copy i have is a little purple n colour and is a certified copy of an entry in marriage registration records and it says '' after banns ''.
the two witnesses are named as Patrick Corr and Jane Kennedy.
I only just got home from work ( night watch/shift ) so off to bed for me now , back a bit later.
Dave.

I meant if he left a Will he might not have been a Soldier on it.....

A labourer called Jesse Fulton was cited as the father of John Fulton of Belfast who married Elizabeth Walker of Belfast in St. Anne's Church of Ireland Belfast on 1 September 1859.  John was a labourer, Elizabeth was a servant, the daughter of John Walker, a labourer.  The witnesses were Robert and Mary Addison. John Fulton and Eliza Walker of 10 Letitia Street had a son John baptised in Shankill Church of Ireland parish on 19 September 1860 (born 18 August). John Fulton and Eliza Walker of Bond Street had a daughter Sarah Jane baptised in Shankill Church of Ireland parish on 19 November 1862 (born 1 October).

Have found a tree with the john fulton and with Elizabeth (eliza ) which matches the above info and they appear to move to the usa in about 1865, there daughter Sarah Fulton marries a Harry Dorman and carries on the name Jesse with one of there children being named a Jesse Fulton Dorman.
With the other info it does look very likely that my tree and this other tree are related so i will investigate further with this and might find something in the American records, very hopeful with this bit of information.
More to find yet me thinks.

GAFFY,  What site did you find Jesse Fulton cited as father of John Fulton who married Elizbeth Walker in 1859, i would love to take a look , i do think that the name Jesse gets transcribed as james on some records i have found like my marriage record of 1858 for his daughter Mary Jane Fulton transcribed as james but written on cert as jesse.

Jesse Fulton was cited on the original civil marriage registration, which is already available online via the official Northern Ireland 'GRONI' website (pay to view) or should become available in due course (later this year?) to view for free on the official Republic of Ireland 'IrishGenealogy' website.
