I am looking for more information for a Thomas Nathaniel who married a Martha Gunn, 31/5/1851, Bombay. Thomas was in the forces born about 1818, Martha was born about 1834, East Indies.

The marriage was actually on 20th May 1851. Thomas Nathaniel was 33, a Colour Sergeant in the British Army, 78th Regiment, a widower. His bride Martha Collis was an 18 year old widow. Her father John Gunn was a witness.

You can view Thomas's army papers on FindMyPast - he was born in Lanark circa 1816.

I don't suppose you have information on their 1st marriages, looked on S/P website for Thomas's, opr's, nothing.

Eliza Nathaniel burial recorded amongst a group of 78th Highlanders burials at Hyderabad, hers on 8 February 1845, aged 24.

Martha Ann GUNN age 16, (father John GUNN) and John COLLIS age 22, (father William COLLIS) married 31 Dec 1849 in Bombay.
Probable death for John COLLIS - age 23, buried 7 July 1850 at Colaba, Bombay.
They had a child - Charlotte Ann, born 28 Oct 1850, bap 29 Oct 1850 in Bombay (parents Martha Ann and John COLLIS)

Thomas and Eliza NATHANIEL had a child, William born 13 Aug 1844 and baptised 21 Aug 1844 in Karachi, Bombay ("Kurrachee" on the transcription)

You're not alone! My thing is forgetting to change from Male to Female or forgetting to change the area when I'm desparately trying to find people & I'm sure many of us on here do the same thing ;D

I have looked for Annie Nathaniel on the 1881 census, no sign, she is on the 1871, name Ann Isabella aged 10, she is on the 1891 census visiting her parents. She was married to James Benson.

Annie Isabella Nathaniel's parents were Thomas Nathaniel and Martha Gunn, Annie was born 15/2/1861, Bo'ness, West Lothian, she married James Benson, 1888, Cambuslang and married William Purvis, 1929, Uphall, West Lothian. On the 1871 census it was Bathgate, the 1891 census Bathgate.

Just posting until I can check out whether this could be someone else with a birth reg. on SP as the age is out a tad but for now the closest I could find was;

On FS her PoB is given as Linlithgow but we don't know who filled in the census?

Add...I didn't find a corresponding birth for a name beginning 'L' so could be your Annie Isabella with a 'pet name' by folks who knew her?
As a wee aside, I'm known as Anne/Annie but a colleague calls me 'Annabell'!!!

I have the 1881 census with a Charles Nathaniel aged 28, born Bombay, India, which is Annie's brother, he married a Lillias she was 23 on the census, born Linlithgow, a daughter Lillias aged 2, Linlithgow. I know where you are coming from, her name being Annie Isabella, it could be recorded something else.

Can you tell us who Annie was with in 1871, was it her parents or someone else?
