I thought I'd solved this mystery, but perhaps not.
We have Rose Crisp marrying Joshua Morgan Thomas in the December quarter of 1890 in Islington.
Family records say that Rose was the daughter of Henry Crisp of Bradford upon Avon in Wiltshire and was born about 1867.
The FreeBMD index has three records for the birth of Rosa Crisp in 1867/1868.
There's also a marriage record for a Rosa Crisp marrying a Mr Smith in 1889.
So who was our Rose Crisp?
Thanks

The marriage certificate will give you her fathers name.
-
We already have her father's name as Henry Crisp.
The 1881 Census has Rosa E A Crisp as the daughter of Henry Crisp, but we have a marriage for Rosa Eva Amelia Crisp to a John William Smith on 5th May 1888 and it seems that their marriage lasted a while.
Our Rose married Joshua in 1890 and her father was supposedly Henry Crisp too. That's why I'm posting here.
Thanks

The two Rose/Rosa births in Bradford on Avon in the period you mention
ROSA CRISP Mothers Maiden Name COMLEY
GRO Ref 1866 DEC Qter BRADFORD Vol 05A Page 125
ROSA EVA AMELIA CRISP Mothers Maiden Name HIBBARD
GRO Ref 1867 SEP Qter BRADFORD (WILTS) Vol 05A Page 123
The Smith/Crisp marriage in 1888 you mention lists the wife as Rosa Eva A Crisp
-
So the 1881 census for Rosa E A Crisp has parents Henry and Sarah Crisp. But this Rosa married Mr Smith.
Is there another 1881 census record for Rose/Rosa with another Henry as her father?

Her parents are possibly Henry and Eliza re 1871 census of Bradford on Avon.
1901 census Rose states born Bradford on Avon
-
Possible marriage for parents
Marriages Sep 1852 Bradford W 5a 181
Eliza COMLEY - Henry CRISP
-
There's a Henry Crisp in the 1881 census with wife Eliza living in Bradford on Avon. He is a wool dyer. Rose/Rosa is not with them.
Anyway, I think we've established that our Rose's parents were not Henry and Sarah but were Henry and Eliza.
She is not Rosa Eva Amelia Crisp, but her mother's maiden name was Comley.
Agreed?

I think you are correct Kay.
So I wonder where our Rose/Rosa was in 1881? ???

So a member on Anc***** has mixed Rosa and Rosa E A Crisp. I'm thinking that they must know something as they have given her a birth date of 24th October 1866, but they have chosen the 1867 birth record for Rosa E A Crisp.
Now if we could just find our Rosa in 1881, I would be satisfied.
Thanks

Well she wasn't at home with her parents and siblings in 1881 :-\ Maybe away from home that night??
