There's an RC baptism for him which references the 1920 marriage. Baptised at St Anne's on 5 June 1885, born 6 March 1885, parents Thomas McCabe and wife Joanna (possibly Jane) maiden name Smith. Address 10 Mason Street.

I reckon I've found the family in 1939 at 124 Field Street, Liverpool.  Thomas's birth year is 1885.

Seven members in the household but three are closed.

Have a look and see what you think.

There are quite a number of McCabe/Doyle births between 1920 and 1939, mainly W.Derby and Liverpool.

I think this may be the father's death:-

Deaths Mar 1900
McCabe    Thomas    44    W. Derby    8b   483

Gives a birth year of 1856

Munro    Jane        Liverpool    8b   58

Or is this a different Thomas McCabe?

On the 1920 marriage on Liverpool, England, Catholic Marriages, 1754-1921 one of the witnesses, Susanna McCabe, has an address of 7 Amber Street. Looking at the Electoral Rolls, she's with a John McCabe.

There's also a baptism:
Joannes Thomas McCabe

Birth 17 Apr 1880
Baptism Date:   14 Mar 1881

son of Thomae Mccabe and Joannae Smith.
Which may or may not be this on the GRO:

I can't see anyone on any census,though!

1891 census at 7 Curzon Street, Liverpool:

Jane McCabe wife Married 30
Thomas McCabe   son   6
John McCabe son 3

All shown as born Glasgow, Scotland but I think that is an error as regards the children.

Ellen McCabe minor Father; John McCabe  Occ: Tailor
Marriage Date:   15 Jul 1867
Marriage Place:   Liverpool, St Nicholas, Lancashire, England
Spouse-John PHIPPS Occ:Painter  Father: Robert PHIPPS

As odd as it seems-I think that Ellen is  the sister of Thomas McCabe. Sandra gave the family in 1871.

Ellen and John PHIPPS had  several children but one daughter,Ellen born ~ 1877 seems to have married an Alexander STEWART and appears on the 1911 (posted by Jamjar) where Thomas McCABE is listed as “cousin”.
I think that Charles PHIPPS who married Ann McCABE was also a child of  Ellen and John PHIPPS.

Sorry-not very clear.

The 1861 census that you have looks to be Thomas Snr from the marriage certificate.  This looks as though this is his birth registration

MCCABE, THOMAS       DOYLE
GRO Reference: 1854  D Quarter in LIVERPOOL  Volume 08B  Page 159

I gave you what I thought may be the above's death at reply #4.

The Thomas marrying Ellen Doyle was born about 1886.

I gave you most likely deaths for Thomas Jnr and Ellen which I repeat here for you:-

Possible death for Thomas?

Deaths Dec 1956
McCabe    Thomas    71    Liverpool N.    10d   138

Added:  Ellen's death?

Deaths Dec 1957
McCABE    Ellen    61    Liverpool N.    10d   202

I found Thomas and Ellen in the 1939 Register and Thomas' birth date is given as 9 March 1885.

Are you trying to clarify Thomas McCabe Senior?  It would be helpful to know what his occupation was as that is not shown on the image that you provided of the 1920 marriage ceritifcate.

I appreciate that this thread has been idle for a while now but I found it by chance a couple of weeks ago. My Grandmother was the daughter of Charles Phipps and Annie McCabe, we knew nothing about them other than their names so this thread was really helpful in kickstarting our research into the family tree.  So I just wanted to stop back and say thank you to the people who posted on here.
