Does anybody have access to Kent & Sussex Courier for a story about a funeral on the above date? Whose funeral was it and who attended?

If you mean the paper dated 24th January 1936 - Rev. Harold Hubert Hlbbert Hockey.

I believe you can do a free trial on their web site. ;)    Some UK libraries have free access to FindMyPast which also has the article.
