Edward Behan married Ellen Douch in St. Kevins Church, Dublin in 1918. He had been previously married to Anne McCormack. I cannot find either of them in the Irish Census in 1901/11 however Ellens details show similarities in the 1911 English census as her father was Alfred and I have found an Alfred with daughter Ellen that is a possibility. There may be a military connection as the marriage certificate dated 1875 of Ellen, her father was recorded as a soldier. A similar Alfred Douch married an Ellen McInnerney in Dublin and he was attached to Richmond Barracks and he was a soldier.
I cannot find any thing definite of the Behans and where they lived as there are so many of them, but no leads. Edwards father was Patrick.

Ahh, ELLEN DOUCHE not ELLEN DOUCH
-
Any idea what age this couple were?
-
No clues but I should mention that Edward was previously married to Anne McCormack.
Some listings for an Edward in Wicklow have potential......
-
Where and when did he marry Anne McCormack and did they have any children?
-
Sinann, sorry, for being so vague but this is all we know. Edward was previously married to Anne McCormack and it is likely that these are the children from that marriage.
Sarah (she married Martin Gunnery in 1942) - Vera - Agnes - William - Alfred
I was told when Edward remarried his wife struggled to raise all of these children who weren't her own.
-
The children had to be born before 1918 and there doesn't appear to be any Behan/McCormack or variants births on or before 1916 could the mother surname be incorrect?

Dathai, thank you so much for this find.
I think this must be Alfred, son of Alfred Douch and Helen McInenny.
Would you agree?

I have found a marriage of an Anne McCormack and Patrick Behan in Ancestry. I don't have full membership to view any details but perhaps this is the Anne McCormack my friend thought was Edwards first wife?
-
Maybe your friend thought it was a marriage for Edward's parents ?
Patrick Behan married Ann Hanlon ,WIDOW dtr of Hugh McCorm*ck at Philipstown,Tullamore 1885

Having found Edward Behan and Ellen Douch it appears that when they married there were 30 years between them in age, Edward fathering children at the age of 60yrs. Was this common in Ireland or have I missed a generation, even though Edward was previously married?
-
Something doesn't have to be common to be possible.
That said it did happen sometimes particularly if there was land or a business, he needed a wife to look after earlier children or an heir, she needed a husband for children and if her and her children's prospects/comfort could be improved by marring an older man than why not.
