Hi could any one date this for me please and if possible restore too this is my great Grandma Mary Morrell also spelt Morrlle from Flintshire North wales. Thank you in advance
-
Couldn't resist trying to brush up my namesake, Jacky ;)
The National Portrait gallery lists the 'London Portrait Company' as being active between 1863 and 1880. So the photo date is within this range.
Here are 2 versions, the first with the original frame and the second with a Photoshopped one.
Mike
PS. I still have a lot of question marks but it looks like my "Morrell" ancestors originated in Mortlake, Surrey in the early 1700's, moved to Devon around 1750 and stayed there until one William Morrell (my 2nd great-grandfather) moved to South Wales (Cardiff/Swansea) around 1850. I'll PM you to find out whether we have any common origins (people/places).

Thank you Mike for your advice anf the photos are great. Feel free to pm me off my head im not sure if my lot were ever in Devon but we do have quite a few William's running through the family and this is the way my grandad used to spell it and my great uncle i think the furthest iv got back in 1724 but will check now. other names variations ar Morrlle, Morralle, Morralee and the list is endless haha ;D

A bit later than 1880, this is Edwardian. The pigeon-breast blouse was popular from around 1903-08.

Thank you Jim1 she was so like my late mum its a great picture i just wanted to try and figure out how old she would have been she was born in 1878 and died in 1953 so perhaps in her early 30s thank you
-
She doesn't look in her 30's to me. Born 1878 would put her around 25 if this was 1903.
I notice her left hand is hidden, it was sometimes displayed like this if the subject was unmarried.
So when did she?
-
Jim1 she got married in 1896
