Would anyone know the ancestors of Edward LANE born maybe in Alford Sussex
in 1883 please?
(According to information from Barnardo 's )
He was a butcher's apprentice and may have had a daughter, Etta Iris BLANE /Lane born 2nd April 1907 in Guildford in Surrey, baptism reference could be St James Place Cranleigh June 1907

Hi, Where did you get the Sussex connection?
-
I could be wrong, but I think the Edward Francis LANE and Phoebe MOORE who married in Plymouth are more likely to be the parents of Phoebe (Dec qtr 1907 Plymouth) and Phyllis (Sept qtr 1909 Plymouth) who appear on the 1911 census at Plymouth. He is a Photographic Canvasser.
I can't see Etta Iris on a 1911 census?
-
Oh, here she is Etta Iris BLANE in Worplesdon, Guildford in 1911 a "nurse child"

You maybe right maddys52, there is a Edward Mark Lane born in Sussex 1883 but I can't find a marriage to a Moore.

I can't find Etta Iris in 1911 either.

Thats very likely to be her, maybe she was born Lane and changed to Blane when she was adopted hence the Barnardo's reference.

You said Etta Iris was Blane but the GRO says Lane so are we looking for Blaine or Lane?
-
baptism reference could be St James Place Cranleigh June 1907
Indeed, that is the abode given.
Etta Iris
parents Edward + Ethel Blane
father a Butcher
born 2nd April 1907
It was a private baptism. The parish is Stoke next Guildford.

There's a Blann family in Cranleigh, parents Benjamin and Eliza. Children include an Edward (who doesn't appear to be a butcher), and an Ethel (who married in Cranleigh just a few months after that baptism of Etta).
Mention it just in case!
An Ethel Mary Moore, baptized Cranleigh, 6 July 1884. She was still unmarried and living in Cranleigh in 1911, according to the free index

She certainly looks like a possibility. Working as a domestic servant in 1911. I'm only looking at the transcript on familysearch, I wonder if it records whether she has had any children? Could be a reason Etta Iris appears to have been adopted.
