There is an appeal in my local newspaper (News Guardian) this week for more information on the above named person. (This paper runs very interesting historical articles each week under the heading of 'Looking Back'.)
You may know more about William or perhaps you are a descendant who could help. Information can be sent to the North Shields local studies. There is an email but I would not be allowed to post on main board.
Article (with headshot) photo relates:
William was born at Gilling, Yorkshire.
He worked for Dale Young Nelson & Co
Then York City and County Banking Co branch of Newcastle
He was held to be a 'founder' of Whitley Bay.
He married Ann Isabella Naters of Cullercoats in 1871.I
He was a member of Whitley Bay Board of health
He was a county councillor and magistrate and worked in several charities.
He joined the volunteer force of the Tynemiuth Royal Garrison Artillery, retaining the title of Major on retirement in 1904
If you have more details please send to the library. Thank you

Hi Trish,
Thank you for your post - I am greatly looking forward to the history day and the War time food event which is also taking place on the 15th at the North Shields library :).
Would the William Spicer you mention be the same one as the newspaper article records that he married Ann Naters of Cullercoats?
-
The 1877 Marriage I posted is the 2nd Marriage of William Spicer Snr born 1814.
So the Father of William born 1844 whose Mother was Dinah Atkinson, William Snr's 1st Wife
Yes William Jnr married Ann Isabella Naters 1871.
So the 1877 has the name/occp of William Snrs's Father, therefore William Jnrs Grandfather.

Thank you very much for this Trish!
I will take all your findings to the library on Saturday. I know they will greatly appreciated this. :)
