Title: Unreadable street name
Post by: PaulThommo on Thursday 10 May 18 04:35 BST (UK)
Hello Rootschat deciphers!! 1851 census for a 2x Great Uncle and Aunt has them living in ? Court in South Shields. It is next to Nile Street in the East Holborn area but as to the name I can't work it out. Could start with an F but not sure. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks, Paul

On the next two pages of the census it looks like Harrisons Court  :-\

Kay

Also shows as Harrisons Court and Harrisons Buildings on the description of the enumeration district

On the modern day map Nile and Hill run parallel.

On the photo found on link provided by Kay, it says Harrison back of Hill.

So, that puts it between Nile and Hill.

Thanks Kay and Jamjar, yes Hill Street is very close to Nile Street (as you said they run parallel to each other, so assume Harrisons Court is in between them.
The more you look at the words it could well be Harrisons Court, although without guidance I would not have guessed it. Many thanks, Paul

Harrison Court did exist, as I have just seen an online tree that has someone born at no 4 in 1904.

I wonder if it's the short street between them now called Carpenter St?

I took a photo of that area from a map dated late 1800's while in South Shields a couple of years ago and Carpenter Street was listed on the map. I think Harrison Court is one of the plethora of little lanes around that area which aren't listed. I have other ancestors around that area whose street names weren't listed and enquired on Rootschat and we managed to locate them.

Many thanks to all, I think we have established the correct name of the street and also its location.
Your combined help is much appreciated. Paul
