Margaret shows up on the 1851 census in the family of John Niven(s) as his daughter born Durris and aged 5yrs. I cant find a birth in Scotlands People or any other site or any link to John Nivens who was born 1822 Durris. There is a birth 1868 for John Nivens Wright which Im thinking is her son. Her address at that time was Dhualt Glen Durris.

Was Margaret Wrights mothers name Elizabeth Chapman ?
There is a marriage 1847 Durris Kincardineshire Old Parish Records
John Wright amended ( Niven )
Betty Chapman
There are a few trees on Ancestry with his parents as Charles Niven and Barbara Ross
They have a death for him 1880 Crathes Kincardineshire but I can not see one on Scotlands People
Maybe worth while contacting some of the tree owners if you have access

The marriage would be for John Nivens and Elizabeth or Betty Chapman it seems John was sowing his seeds before this marriage and that is where Margaret Wright comes in. Is it more likely that the daughter belongs to the Chapman side of the fence?.

Hello
The other child on the 1851 census does appear on Scots people
Christina Niven d of John Niven and Betty Chapman 31.5.1849 at Durris.
So it looks like Margaret was from Betty's first marriage to John Wright and John Niven was her step father as suggested by Rosie 17.
Doesn't Margaret's marriage cert give a father?

I got the birth cert for John Nivens Wright but she wasnt married and there seems to be a few wrights from this area with no father. John was described as illegitemate.

I couldnt find any marriage for an Elizabeth Chapman and anyone called Wright between 1844 to 1846 when Margaret was born. She married Nivens in 1847.
