Title: Simpson family of Soham
Post by: MacGrigor on Wednesday 16 May 18 16:34 BST (UK)
Hello,

I'm missing a few bits of information I'm keen to have. This is:

A marriage for John and Catherine Simpson, before 1765. Probably in or near Soham.
A marriage for Robert and Elizabeth Simpson, before 1686. Probably in or near Soham.
Baptisms for any of the individuals mentioned other than John Simpson.

I'd appreciate any help!

Adam

I couldn't find either of these marriages in Cambridgeshire. Have you tried Norfolk/Suffolk? Soham isn't too far from the border.

I'm going to have a look now. I'll try FreeREG.

Added: no luck  :'(

There's a Susan Simpson, baptized at Soham in 1743, parents John + Catharine

This is rather earlier than the date you have mentioned.
Possible marriage for those two? 19 Feb 1742/3 at Downham (can't be far away?)
John Simpson + Catharine Tailor

That's definitely possible! Apparently it's a town in Norfolk, around 30 miles from Cambridge. Thanks.

Hi
Apparently it's a different Downham, near Ely and Littleport! It is in the Cambridgeshire BT's.
Soham is just a little to the south.
Susan looks like the first child of John + Catherine in 1743, and James the last in 1765.

Thank you! Was Elizabeth from Downham then? I don't have my files on this phone but if memory serves John was born in Soham in 1722.

Can you see the 1716 marriage of Isaac Skare and Mary Hitchinson in Stapleford? As I've said I don't have my notes but there's a possible Isaac Skare from another village that could be linked by any clues on the record.

It doesn't say where they were from on the BT.
I would think it's quite likely the Soham couple. Bear in mind that Susan was baptized in Soham only four months later (if FamilySearch has the date right).
To be honest, I can't say who Catherine was or where she was from at the moment.

Stapleford 1716, you are going to need the parish register. No BT I'm afraid.

Apologies for missing the John and Catherine Simpson marriage and sending you off on a wild goose chase to Norfolk/Suffolk. Yes, there is an Isaac Skare and Mary Hitchinson marrying in Stapleford 1 October 1716 but I couldn't seen any more information.

No problem. Thanks for the date!
