Title: Searching for John Brown from Govan born 1883
Post by: sandrasingleton on Wednesday 16 May 18 18:46 BST (UK)
New to Roots forum hoping I am at the right place.
John Brown b 1883 in Govan, Glasgow was married on 22.12.1902 in Govan Glasgow to Sarah Just b.1880. Their children were Eliza Ann (my grandmother)b 1907-d 1967 in Dundee, Albert, Andrew, Mary, Priscilla, Richard.  I know his father was John Brown who married Elizabeth Keys? I cant find anymore information. Any help would be appreciated.

There is a death for a Sarah Brown other name Just on Scotlands People 1942 Campsie which would let you know if he was still alive

Thanks Rosie for your very quick response. Will try census.  Not sure which is the best site to access records. Tried Scotland’s people but didn’t get too far. Will have to consider buying some type of subscription I think. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Welcome  :)

Have you looked at the 1902 marriage certificate on SP ?
That should give you both sets of parents names.

Census shows both John Brown and Sarah Just were born in Ireland.

Sarah's address when married was 23 Albert Street, Govan and her parents John (bc.1850 Ireland) and Priscilla (bc.1855 Ireland) are living at that address in 1901 although Sarah not with them.

The Just's seem to have come from Lurgan, Ireland and moved to Govan during 1890's.

Can't see an obvious John Brown bc.1883 Ireland in the area in 1901, certainly not at 19 Albert Street (the address when he married).

Is it the death date you are looking for John Brown ?  Have you checked all the families marriages to see if he was deceased ...isobelw has found the marriage for his parents and his birth you can search
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie for free if you want to look for more family ..A brother William James Brown 26/1/1882 Belfast ..Not sure where you live but the Mitchell Library Glasgow is a good place to search records they also have a Scotlands People search room where you can book a day search for £15.00 ..You can view records up to present day and it works out a lot cheaper

I am very grateful for all the information I have received in just one day.  I now have three more generations to add to my family tree.  I maybe should now move over to the Ireland forum as most of the information is Ireland based.  I live abroad so am unable to go to the Scotland People offices, maybe next time I'm home in Scotland I should go there.   Still have lots to find out so I am sure this is the place to come to. Thanks again
