Title: Stanley CHAVASSE and Kate NORTH
Post by: rogtut# on Saturday 19 May 18 23:33 BST (UK)
My ancestor Stanley Chavasse was born in Essex, England in 1873 and died on 5 Jan 1953 in Johannesburg, Transvaal, South Africa.  Kate North was also born in 1873 in Reit Spruit, Pietermaritzburg, Natal, South Africa and, I believe, died in 1959 in Mafeking, South Africa.
Apart from a transcription of Kate’s birth record and her mother's estate file and Stanley’s death information record I have not been able to find any details of their marriage or other information and will appreciate any help.
Thanks R

No marriage date yet, but apparently the marriage took place in Johannesburg

Well, you are clever!  This certainly fills in some gaps.  To pick your brains a bit more is the term probate used in SA as it is in England when a will is proved.  Other terminology such as Letters of Administration, intestacy etc seem to be the same.

I have almost come to the end of my SA ancestors but there will amost certainly be one or two more that I can't find. :-[

I'm no will or SA expert, but I'd assume that "probate" is more or less the same in most Commonwealth countries.

BTW I saw "Kate Chavasse"mentioned in the 1931 South Africa, Voter Indexes, so the marriage would have taken place before this ...

Slvia, Yes I had seen the 1931 voters list but can't find any other reference to them. R
