Title: Kivell in New Zealand
Post by: diabak on Monday 21 May 18 01:30 BST (UK)
Lots of Kivells in New Zealand,  believed to be shortened from Nankivell.  One I know of was Sir Rex, (who was the illeg son of a Nankivell) but changed his name to hide it.
The first Kivell birth in NZ was the mod 1850's with a John and his wife Mary Jane with 10 births to the pair.

I am sorry, but I  do not know what "the mod 1850's" is.

I'm a Nankivell researcher, and some of us believe that Kivell was shortened from Nankivell before or when they went to NZ. I am trying to rule in, or rule out that possibility.
I have all their BDMs from the NZ registers. The first death in NZ from Papers Past was
1861....On the 28th February, William John, eldest child of Mr J. Kivell, aged 3 years and 9 months.
JOHN KIVELL, (with no definite date of arrival in New Plymouth, maybe 1854?) married Mary Jane Old on the 31-12-1855 in St Mary's Church, New Plymouth.  John was born about 1827, as he died aged 59 in 1886,
Question is...was John a Nankivell?

Thanks
At least I can stop going up that path, and concentrate on more likely avenues for the Nankivells.
Cheers
