Hi,
William Chivers was born 1862 Newbury, he married Rebecca Lipscombe in 1880. William and Rebecca Chivers then migrated to New Brunswick, Canada in 1908
Headstone photograph shows that William was in the Royal Berkshire Regiment, as well as the Lincoln Welland Regiment in Canada.
At this stage, have been unable to find any information on William's involvement with the Royal Berkshire Regiment, have been informed by a researcher that there was a Militia group formed in 1881 in Berkshire. Wondering if anyone could assist me with further information on William's involvement with the Regiment.
Regards

Hi Jan,
Try the Berks Records Office, in Reading, Berks
I believe they may have some records for the Berks Militia.
Their address is;

Jan,
I'm in Adelaide - so I know the difficulties but have always had a quick responce from the Berks RO with some info that has helped me out, albeit they often (not always) ask for a fee first.

Best source of info on the Royal Berks is their museum - http://www.thewardrobe.org.uk
Service papers, if you're very lucky, are at the PRO - FindMyPast has these, but I can only see two William Chivers from Newbury, neither b 1862. One was born 1840, joined the Royal Berks Militia in 1858 and went on to serve 21 years in the 90th Foot. The other was born 1899 - died in 1918 see http://westberkshirewarmemorials.org.uk/texts/stories/WBP00951S.php
