Title: Wangford PR - GIRDLESTONE, b. 1862
Post by: lucymags on Wednesday 30 May 18 09:04 BST (UK)
I have the transcript for this one from FS, but have tried in vain to see if the actual record is available anywhere, anyhow, and have had no luck. I am curious to know who the godparents were for this one, as I suspect one of a couple who lived near by with the surname Clapcott.

Christening 19th Dec 1862, Wangford [St Peter & St Paul?], Suffolk:
Name: Henry Clapcott Girdlestone
Gender: Male
Christening Date: 19 Dec 1862
Christening Place: WANGFORD BY SOUTHWOLD,SUFFOLK,ENGLAND
Father's Name: Horatio Girdlestone
Mother's Name: Helen Catherine [Note: mother's name incorrectly cited - should be Ellen]

If anyone has access to the actual record and there are witnesses named, I'd be very keen to know!

If it was a Church of England christening it is unlikely that you will get the names of the Godparents as these are not usually given.

Oh, I see. Thanks Emeltom.  :)

(I'll let the request stand for a couple of days just in case someone has access and can provide any other info about it, before marking it as completed.)

Oh, thanks very much for that, Anne.  :)

From what I have just read, private baptisms were usually carried out for sickly infants, who may not be expected to survive... And/or in his case, it took 2 years for the vicar to complete the process of registering the baptism?
