Title: Mountiford H. Westropp of Westmount
Post by: Drl1959 on Thursday 31 May 18 16:45 BST (UK)
Hello all,

I'm trying to find out more information on this man.  I know very little of him.  I know he married Frances Swayne in the Diocese of Cork and Ross in 1816.  He owned a house named Westmont in Corbally (unsure where this is).  He put it up for lease in 1833, 1834 and must have finally leased it in 1835 because there is no further mention of him trying to lease it after that.  He lived for awhile in Tuam, but I'm not sure which one.  He was living in Sligo in 1835 when the last mention of him trying to lease Westmount is found.  He died in Sligo in 1837 and his wife, Frances, died in Cork City in 1854.  I suspect they had no children.

There were a number of Westropp families, including another Mountiford Westropp that lived at the same time but this is not the same fellow.  That Mountiford married Jane Dawson in 1813.

I was able to find a number of Westropps in the Landed Estates database but I can't figure out how this fellow fits in with them, or if he even does.

I would like to find out more info on him and I would like to find out where Westmount was or is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lucky it was the second one on the list.
You can zoom out see where in relation to surrounding towns it is.
