Evening all,
My quest begins with John Butler who began playing for Whitby United (now Whitby Town).
John started playing 1926. I'm looking for his date of birth.
I have found his year of marriage:
John married Susannah Smith in Whitby in Dec quarter 1928. (9d 1012).
Maybe if anyone can confirm his age at marriage it may help ID his birth.
Also if anyone can confirm John date of birth and mother maiden name it may help with the other family members.
John and Susannah had a son, another John E Butler in Whitby Jun quarter 1929 (9d 734), anyone have the date of birth as John E also played for the club after WWII.
John Senior also went on to manage the club.
Now the rest of the family
George Butler began playing in 1938 which points to him being John (snr) brother.
H Butler began playing 1934 which points to him being John (snr) brother.
RW Butler began playing in 1946 which points to being John (Snr) and Susannah Smith's son.
If anyone can confirm the dates of birth of these gents I'd be very grateful.
Thanks in advance,
Neil.

I presume all these have now died?
When you say began playing, do you mean for Whitby United, if so roughly how old would they be - 18? Just trying to get an idea of when to start looking for births.
-
Various bits of research haven't turned up any of them living. Ads in local papers etc.
I estimate that John (snr) was born about 1906 as he was married in 1928
In the 1920s players tended to be over 18.
John (Jnr) born in 1929 as the marriage fits.

Did John snr die 1994 Cleveland?
A Susannah Smith was registered March qtr 1909 Whitby, think she was born 31st December 1908 though.

Saw that about Susannah thanks.
She's the mother of John (Jnr).
I did a 1911 search:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X7PT-S1X?print=true
There a Butler family in Middlesbrough that also lists:
Harry Butler Son Male 2 Middlesbrough, Yorkshire
John Butler Son Male 5 Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire
Does look likely this is my WTFC Player and his brother. :)
Just George missing now.

Good afternoon one and all.
RW Butler began playing in 1946 which points to being John Butler (Snr) and Susannah Smith's son.
Final Butler to be found.
I have had a search through free BMD for a R*W Butler to no avail. The GRO search doesn't work beyond 1917.
Any ideas please?
Thanks in advance,
Neil.
