I have been sent a copy of a family bible with some limited info about a Charlotte Ragen. It says she was born on 9 Apr 1787 and married a William Bartlett (born 1787) in Dovercourt in 1807.
It also mentions a death of a William Ragen on 5 March 1852. I hope the name Ragen is correct (Possibly Regan ??) as the word died has been written 'dide'. Charlotte and William had at least 3 children, James 1814, David 1818 and Charlotte abt 1820. Charlotte's birth in the Bible is very precise as it says 7:30 in the morning of 21 Jan 1820. However the Baptismal record from Dovercourt church shows birth as 4 Feb 1821 and baptism on 7 Oct 1821.
Any help with Charlotte R, William B or William R most welcome. Would love to know where they were from originally, etc. Thanks

Rather inconveniently it looks like she died just before the 1851 census (she was born in county in 41)
Dec 1850 Tendring 12 173
Bartlett, Charlotte
age 63
There's a James + Charlotte Ragen having children baptized at Harwich from 1789 (FreeReg)

Bible entry very small and difficult to read seems to say 'Charlotte Bartlett me mother dide 6th October 1850', so will have missed the census if this is correct. To confuse things her daughter was also Charlotte Bartlett (Abt 1821- 30 Aug 1905)

Wonderful to have that bible!
There's a William Bartlett in Harwich in 1851, says born Romsey in Hampshire, circa 1784

There's a William Bartlett baptized at Romsey in Hampshire, 28 August 1786. Parents David + Jane. So that might be a possibility.

Many thanks jonw65 for the most useful info I will need to research the Hants connection as there is a David among the Bartlett children. I think there was a very strong link to fishing and the sea.

The marriage is 23 November 1807 at dovercourt. Unfortunately it says by banns and both of the Parish. Witnesses don’t seem to be daily either. However, charlottes surname is spelled ‘Ragent’ with a t.
-
And did a William Ragent marry in Harwich in November 1812? Could he be the William Ragen baptized there in 1789 to James + Charlotte?
Re those two
A possible marriage at St Pancras, 31 October 1782
James Ragen + Charlotte Bailey
Burials at Harwich
16 July 1825
Charlotte Ragen, age 75
20 January 1838
James Ragen, age 87

Couldn’t find any Bartlett baptisms at dovercourt or harwich for Charlotte born 1820/21?
-
On the 1841 William is born out of county and Charlotte in Essex (as you already said about Charlotte). That would support William being born romsey. He’s a fisherman on 1841.
-
thanks everyone for help and suggestions. Here is the page from the bible and also a copy of the baptism.
-
Just triple checked. Definitely no baptisms of any Charlotte Bartlett in dovercourt Parish records for 1820 or 1821. The Parish vicar is William Whinfield, which doesn’t tie up with the name on your record either. I wonder if it was nonconformist?
Also checked harwich again, Ramsay, parkeston, little Oakley, great Oakley and wrabness.
No Bartlett baptisms.
