I would be grateful for help in reading this entry in the baptism records of Ardfield & Rathberry parish:

The entry is for 23 January 1862. The child's name starts with J, & the parents are Cor_? Leary & Ellen Calnan, [place] C M , sponsors J _? Calnan & Margt Leary
Can anyone help with the forenames of the child and father? And does anyone familiar with the area & register know what location is intended by C M?
I have tried to attach a snip but it may not work.

I think the mystery first names are Jn (for John or Jonathan) and Corley

Thanks Philip, appreciate another eye looking at this.
I was hoping for abbreviations of Jeremiah & Cornelius, but thought the superscript for the J name looked very like a 'd' or an 'o'. If an 'o' it probably is short for John, as you suggest.
Added: Cornelius O'Leary & Ellen Callanan had a (or another?) son named John born 30 Dec 1866 & Familysearch gives the place of registration as Common Mountain, Ardfield, Clonakilty. So that possibly explains the C M.

The date to me looks more like 28 with the top loop not fully formed. While the other figures 8 on same page look clearer, if you go to June page, between dates, 27 and 29, there is another somewhat the same. (although I realise it's the names you are querying)

Yes, you are quite right Conahy calling. I had written 28 in my notes but for some reason I typed 23. Thanks for picking it up.
I don't think this is the family I am looking for - ah well!

Cornelius O'Leary & Ellen Callinan had a daughter Mary in the same parish on the 26 Feb 1870
the address has a blob of ink on it but could read Mountain

Cornelius O'Leary & Ellen Callanan had a (or another?) son named John born 30 Dec 1866 & Familysearch gives the place of registration as Common Mountain, Ardfield, Clonakilty.
Could these possibly link to my elusive Irish relatives?
My several-times great grandparents George CRISPIN and Ellen CALANAN married on 9 Dec 1812 in Clonakilty, had four known children born 1814-1826, then the family moved to South London before 1841.
What are the odds?

The couple had another child Daniel and the place of residence is clearly given as C Mountain (although when I googled it seems to be called Mountain Common, not the other way around). I found that on the images - I can’t seem to pass the test to prove I am not a robot to view the transcripts though appreciate they would be faster. If I am a robot I need a bit of maintenance work, maybe some new specs.
I had a look at later O’Leary families in this location in the 1901 census and they seem to have occupations such as farmer, train driver, smith etc. I don’t think this Cornelius and Ellen belong to my lot.
I am looking for the sea faring O’Leary family from Ring, who you pointed me to some time ago, Sinann. I can see them in later census entries and they are still seamen but my Jeremiah is in England by then. I haven’t been able to find church entries for the Ring family so have been sporadically prowling around nearby parishes hoping to spot them.
Hello again Philip. The registers for Ardfield and Rathberry are oozing with Callanans and variants thereof, but then all the Co. Cork parishes seem to have the same surnames repeating within communities.
I have no doubt I have ties to the area - my DNA matches are full of the names I see on this message board (McCarthy, Collins, Driscoll and others). But I need my paper records ???

Just a matter of clicking on all photos that have cars etc...
If you solve it you get a list of records
Right Click on maybe 5 or 6 and select Open in New Tab
then you can view them rather than just doing one at a time and returning to results

Thanks Hallmark. I understand the principle of the robot checks but keep failing that particular site’s test and give up because life is too short. This evening I identified everything I recognised as A shop front and still failed. Maybe our shopfronts look different here compared to wherever they designed the test. No doubt my fault but I find it tedious to go through.

Try a different browser, I never have to do a test, just click on the little square, I'm using Firefox on the laptop and Google Chrome on the iPad, the only time I have to do the test is if I use Google Chrome on the work computer, I usually use Firefox there as well but sometimes the image won't open.
If memory serves my correctly I used to get the test but haven't got it for a year or two, hope I haven't just jinxed it.
