That sounds right. His sisters came out to Australia in 1866. Now I can look for his marriage. I found his death in US and that gave me their parents which was great. I am thankful that one of his sisters in a death notice actually put the full date of his death 24/1/1902. Many thanks

I suspect that a son Thomas dies a few months after Hugh

With this a 1901 birth for a Thomas Hugh Ward can be found ... parents Hugh Ward and Mary Gruman (or Groman for daughter Harriet in 1897)

So you think he married twice. John was his father's name.  He had a sister called Rose. Did Rosie die?
Lots of questions and hard to find the answers after all these years. Thanks I certainly have a lot of research to do.

Thanks Rosie
In answer to your question about Rose his sister I have no Idea where she was. The death notice of Hugh in the South Australia Paper read loving brother of Rose, Bessie and the late Mrs Burden who was Bridget. I guessed that perhaps Rose was still alive in 1902.  Bessie (Elizabeth) died in 1902 also.

Also find it hard with the birth years. One says he was 26 years in 1879 and yet the census in 1880 has him as 30.  I only wish that they had put the County where he was from somewhere. That would be more helpful that just Ireland.
I do know they came from County Monaghan. Possibly the Shirley estates.

The only positive thing at the moment is his death date which Bessie had put in the paper. 24/1/1902. And the deaths of his children. Many thanks for that.

No I do not have anything on Rose.  I have been looking thru Irish records but they are not too good and are hard to read. I will start again looking at them from 1840 to 1855. I have a feeling that she may be the eldest.  Do not know why.

But Rose was in Australia, yes?,  so no help having her age for 1900 US census which I assume is what Rosie was thinking.

No the question I asked was where was Rose ? And not finding the family in 1900
Residence year 1897 North Adams Massachusetts
Hugh Ward wks mill this occupation mentioned in one of the childrens certificates

There is a marriage 10 July 1905 North Adams Massachusetts
Mary ( Greening ) Ward this Mary was a widow and her second marriage her father is Thomas Greenan mother Mary Maguire ..She married a Leo F Harcourt but on1910 census records she is recorded as having no children ..1920 census there is a Mary E Ward birth year 1898 Massachusetts with the family recorded as sister in law age 22 occupation nurse
Might be a possibility

I am getting a little muddle up.  As far as I know Rose has never been out to Australia. Do not know if she emigrated anywhere.

You might be better to list the information you have on the family in Ireland and what immigration records you have already ..You said there was sisters went to Australia so I am assuming you have records of their immigration ..apart from Rose who you are not sure about have you checked if she married in Ireland ?..

Right. I am looking at records from Ireland. Have all the records of the two sisters here. Elizabeth and Bridget who came out in 1866 to South Australia. Elizabeth did not marry. The main thing to find out was who their parents were and now that we have found Hugh's death that has been answered.
Thanks for all the help. Much appreciated.
