Title: County Bridewell
Post by: Greaves on Saturday 09 June 18 17:05 BST (UK)
I am trying to track down the location in 1841 of one Charles TAPLIN. He was sentenced to 14 days in New Prison or County Bridewell on 21 Jun 1841 for vagrancy. Any help would be much appreciated.

Charles was born in c1801 in Old Basing and seems to have spent much of his life in the Old Basing/Basingstoke area.

Could you give his location in 1851, please?

As the 1841 census was taken in June - and he was sentenced for vagrancy later that month -- he may simply have been living on the streets.

In 1851, Charles was living in Worplesdon, Guildford with his new wife Amelia.

I think that Pennines is probably correct and that he was living on the streets. I forgot that the 1841 census was taken in June, rather than March/April.
