Hello,
Can anyone tell me which church this was at?
Name: James Scarr
Spouse's Name: Eliza Stocker
Event Date: 16 Apr 1843
Event Place: Cambridge, England
Thanks,
Adam

If they were both living in Cambridge in 1841 - check the 1841 census for the ecclesiastical parish they were living in which may help with which church they married in
-
They were in St. Andrew's the Less.
-
You haven’t given the details of the GRO registration, but if you plug them into Marriage Locator you may get an answer:
http://www.marriage-locator.co.uk
Not everyone married in a C of E church, though.
-
I put them in but no luck :'( thanks anyway. It's in English Marriages on FamilySearch but no church is listed.
-
The entry on Family Search for this marriages gives the microfilm number 1,040,430 (you can see this in the section marked 'Citing this record'.) The correct number would be 1040430 i.e. no commas.
Citing this Record
"England Marriages, 1538–1973 ," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N63Y-D5S : 9 March 2018), James Scarr and Eliza Stacker, 16 Apr 1843; citing Cambridge, England, reference , index based upon data collected by the Genealogical Society of Utah, Salt Lake City; FHL microfilm 1,040,430.
I explained to you how to use this number a few days ago http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=794871.msg6515148#msg6515148 :)

I'll have to note that down. It must have slipped my mind before. Thanks.
Edited: I've bookmarked it so I think I've got the hang of it now :)
-

I did say ‘Bookmark it now’ ;D. It’s a bit frustrating when you’ve given advice on how to find something and it’s already been forgotten!
-
Yes, sorry about that ::) I'm quite slow, much to the frustration of most who know me.
-
Yep me too MacGrigor ...... unless there is cake up for grabs. ;D
St Andrew the Less.
The Abbey Church is a small church formerly known as St Andrew the Less, thought to have been built
in the thirteenth century and is on Newmarket Road.
The parish of St Andrews the Less has been taken over by Christchurch close by, also on Newmarket Rd.
Christ Church was consecrated by the Bishop of Ely, on 27 June 1839.
-
Oh. I followed JenB's instructions and found the marriage at Holy Trinity Church. Did I go wrong somewhere? Are you sure the marriage took place at St. Andrew the Less?
-
Marriage not at Holy Trinity
BTs have
10 April 1843 - number 127 - John Fromant Witt + Susannah Molineux
7 May 1843 - number 128 - Frederick Pratt + Sarah Harmond
See them here (must be logged in!)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C9YG-GSMW-5?i=594&cat=779882
Those marriages can be found in the GRO index that quarter, Cambridge, volume 14, pages 17 and 18
James Scarr + Eliza Stocker are way back, indexed page 4

Microfilm 1040430
Holy Trinity Church, Cambridge
Marriages, 1801-1876; Marriage banns, 1801-1835; Burials, 1813-1875; Marriage banns, 1835-1875
Could be FamilySearch have indexed the banns? 16th April 1843 was a Sunday.
-
Oh no ::) so where was it at?
-
Maybe St Andrew the Less!
-
Microfilm 1040430
Holy Trinity Church, Cambridge
Marriages, 1801-1876; Marriage banns, 1801-1835; Burials, 1813-1875; Marriage banns, 1835-1875
Could be banns? 16th April 1843 was a Sunday.
In that case it looks like the record Adam saw is misleading and isnt the actual marriage :-\
-
Quite possibly, as that's where they would live. But this means the marriage date I have recorded is wrong, as is the church.

It was listed under England Marriages! Oh well ::)
-
Yes, that date is Banns.
Marriage 22 April, St Andrew the Less.
Thanks to jonw65 for doing the double-checking and proving Ancestry’s record to be incorrect ::)
-
Thank you! And yes, thanks to jonw65.
-
Next on my list of GRO PDFs to buy is James and Eliza's daughter, Eliza, born in 1847. Sadly, no christening for her has ever been found but it'll be another nice one to add to my collection of 2 :)
-
Yes, that date is Banns.
Marriage 22 April, St Andrew the Less.
Groom bachelor, full age, shoemaker of Downing Terrace, father John a labourer
Bride spinster, full age, servant of Newmarket Road Holy Trinity, father William a wheelwright
-
Yes, that matches with everything I have! Thank you.
