Hello, I'm looking for more information or a photo of my Great Grandfather J.J.F.Doven, I have a photo of my G Grandmother Margaret Doven who died in Sydney but I can't find a photo of him, i know he went back to England where he passed away, and I don't know why he went back to UK and left his family here.
if any one can help would be very pleased,
kind regards, Lynda.

Welcome to RootsChat. :)
When did your gt.grandmother die?
Did Joseph return before or after her death?
He appears on a few trees on Ancestry; it might be worth contacting the tree owners to ask if they have any photographs.

Is this Josephs death
Deaths Dec 1925
Doven Joseph age 60
Epsom 2a 80
His birth was registered in 1866. The family went to Brisbane in 1920

Hi,
Welcome to RootsChat :)
In case this helps, I think this is Joseph returning to the UK,
Ship Name: Ormonde
Port of Departure: Brisbane, Australia
Arrival date: 4 Apr 1922
Port of Arrival: London
DOVEN John Joseph F
Proposed address in the UK: 86 Creadon Rd, N Camberwell
Occupation: Nil
Age: 56
Country of Intended future permanent residence: England
Transcribed at Ancestry just as John Joseph F.
So he wasn't in Australia long and this looks like he didn't mean to return there.
Regards,
Daisy

Hi Daisy,
that is interesting, I didn't know when he left Australia.
that would be him, he was born 1866 London, and died 1925 Epsom Surry UK, and Margaret was born 1870 London and died 1956 NSW Australia.
Just can not find a photo of him, I'm thinking he must of looked something like his sons, Charles, Joseph and Walter, the boys all look much alike.
thank you darling for that,
regards Lynda.

Sorry when I answered Daisy,
I should of said and would like to say thank you to both Nanny Jan and Rosie for trying to help me also.
kind regards Lynda

86 Credon Road, Camberwell is where the family where living for several years prior to going to Australia (electoral registers). His son Joseph with wife Laura continued to live there for a few years though Joseph senior does not appear on the register there after his return.
I wonder what he was doing in the Epsom area :-\

Hello Rosie,
half way through writing to you and I must of pressed something and as always it finished up in cyber space some.
so we will try again, I was trying to google the address but I think all has changed over the years, as I can't find Creadon road.
as for Epsom he was born there, unless there was family still there, how knows.
may I ask if you are connected to the family?
by the way I'm writing from Australia.
Lynda.

There is no A in Creden ;)

I would get the death certificate to confirm address and cause of death - he might have only been in Epsom for medical treatment right before his death, for example.

He was born in Whitechapel, not Epsom area. There are Dovens in Surrey but not in that area.
No, I have no connection to the family.

The Queensland Police Gazette indexes show that a warrant was issued for a John Joseph DOVEN in 1922. Perhaps it was for desertion. Your local library should have the gazette on CD.

Hi Lynda,
Welcome to rootschat. :)
I guess you have seen son Walter’s WW1 service record.
https://discoveringanzacs.naa.gov.au/browse/records/9891
He enlists in Melbourne in 1915 ( modified to 1913) and gives his NOK as father Joseph J DOVEN with the address in Credon Road.
Interesting that the army is still looking for Walter’s address in 1923 to send his medals.

Rosball,
yes thank you ,I have Walters ww1 Records,
but as jorose and Rosie99 said, I will have to check Birth and Death and make sure I have my facts right.
and Dundee, I will have to look at my Tree for John Joseph Doven, and see if I have the right one.
My goodness, when doing this research you don't realize how many people have the same name.
but it's all very interesting isn't it?
thank you every one.
