I am looking for an Arthur S Stone, so far all I can find is his marriage to Mavis R Hogg in 1933 in Wycombe. A Sidney Arthur Stone comes up in familysearch, but not sure how to confirm it. For some reason I am unable to find any more certain details. Any ideas?

If you send off for the marriage certificate it will give you the father’s name and occupation for both Arthur and Mavis. You will then be able to find them on then1911census. This will give you the place of birth for Arthur and you can then get his birth certificate which will give you his mothers name.

A bit of information, gleaned from a free search on the index to the 1939 register
A search for a Mavis R Stone comes up with one result, in High Wycombe. her birth year 1904.
In the same household is an Arthur S. Stone, birth year 1908.

There is the death of an Arthur Samuel Stone in Plymouth in 1989.
His date of birth is given as 1st March 1908.
Putting this date into a free search of the 1939 register comes up with only one result, which is the same Arthur S. Stone as in my reply #2.
There is a birth registration of an Arthur Samuel Stone in the 2nd quarter of 1908, in Bethnal Green, mother's maiden name Hathaway.
However to be absolutely safe you might prefer to do as panda40 suggests and get the Stone/Hogg marriage certificate and work back from that.

I have done a bit of digging and a George Stone married a Edith Jane Hathaway in Wycombe in 1907.
On the 1901 census there is George Stone aged 15 living with his parents Samuel and Elizabeth in High Wycombe. If you search for Samuel and Elizabeth in the 1911census on family search you should find their grandson Arthur aged 3 is with them.

We are on the same track, I had just found exactly the same details :)
Samuel and Elizabeth are living in High Wycombe RD in 1911, and Arthur’s birthplace is Shoreditch (from Genes Reunited free search)

They look to be living in Bethnal Green RD, on a free search there are some young Hathaway’s there too :)

:) hehe, I love the detective work too, now I just need to catch up! I just had it confirmed by my mum that he died in 1989 in Plymouth.
