Title: Daniel Marshall
Post by: craigbarwick01 on Monday 18 June 18 10:09 BST (UK)
Hi all, hoping some one may be able to assist in finding information on Daniel Marshall, possibly a birth and parents or children, I seem to have hit a brick wall and taken a wrong turn. This is what I have that seems good. Daniel Marshall married Margaret Leslie in Dunse, 18 December 1798. As far as I can tell five children William, David, Alexander, Mary and Eliza born between 1800 and 1815. I found a death of a Daniel Marshall 15 April 1829 in Dunse, giving his age as 63. His wife Margaret is in the 1841 census giving her age as 70, widowed. If anyone can help with further information it would be greatly appreciated
Cheers
Craig

The only baptism I can see is in Midlothian on SP is an unnamed male child MARSHAL
Parents WILLIAM MARSHAL/JEAN LISTON 11/03/1764 Mid Calder, some 40 odd miles from Duns?

No Daniel record in Scotland 1760 - 1770 on SP.

I had found the 1764 birth but it only recorded as male child, the only one I found, the same couple had a daughter in 1761. Thanks for the death of Margaret

A bit worried about the 11 year gap between Alexander and Eliza, I would have expected more children.

NB Found a marriage of Eliza Marshall to William Renton in Duns on 7th Dec 1832.

Tom ,

SP has William(b.1800) , David(b.1802) , and Alexander(b.1804) , can't see anything for a Mary  :-\

Hi ev,

Just found them now, I tried parent search again and doesn't bring any of their births. I tried parent search, inputting "Daniel Marshall" in 1st parent box, then "Margaret Leslie" in 2nd Parent box, with "Marshall" in surname box, which usually works but didn't for some reason. Gremlins in the house!

I agree Tom regarding the large gap between the births, couldn't find any others though

Just checked my notes and the births for a Mary and Daniel came from census returns, they were described as aunt and uncle of Alexander's children

According to SP's death index there was at least 1 possibly 2 families with the surname Marshall about the same time as your ancestors
1 with mother's ms Dickson
The other possibility is mothers ms Neilson
Do either of these surnames appear in your family

Hi Craig,

Mary may have married Daniel, rather than being brother and sister. So she wouldn't be a Marshall by birth.

Hi Wendy, neither of those names are familiar, but I will look into it.
As far as Daniel and Mary being married, it doesn't appear that way, Daniel and Mary are living with their mother in 1841, they then appear in 1851 census Daniel is listed as head and Mary as sister,
