Title: 1871 Census - Dabworth, Nottingham (does this place exist?)
Post by: teach3r on Monday 18 June 18 17:27 BST (UK)
Good evening and thank you for any help that can be given.

On the 1871 census of my ggg-grandparents my ggg-grandmother is recorded as being born in Dabworth, Nottingham, however, I cannot find any mention of this town in my searches on Google.  I am hopeful that someone with local knowledge might be able to shed some light as to where it could be please.

I have included a screen grab from the census page (RG10 / 4791 / 21 / Page 39).

Thank you,

Nic

Thank you Nottsgirl1,

That makes sense.  In the 1881 census she is down as being born in Ranby which, from looking at the map, is only down the road from Babworth.

Kindest regards,

Nic

Sorry Nottsgirl1 - I have only just noticed your edit.  Thank you for your offer.  At the moment all I have is that her name was Anne, born around 1842 in Ranby or Babworth.  She was living in Hull by 1863 and married to William Nicholson.  They had 9 children between 1863 and 1881.

I have not yet found the marriage for William and Anne so am unsure of her father's name.

Regards,

Nic

Just been checking the maps.  They were living at Spring Street when they got married and then in 1871 I have them at Windsor Street which is the next street along.  The road was split into Windsor Street and Colonial Street but now is only called Colonial Street.

I think all the clues add up and I have found my people.  Many thanks for your help.

hi,

just checked all the children's birth on the GRO website to conform Ann's maiden name and it was TAYLOR so you have do have the right marriage and christening for Ann.
