Harriet is aged 10 in 1881 census with her dad John and her mum Ellen with Johns parents George and Mary in Shawbury ,shrops - it staes Ellen born Preston - so I looked on Lan-opc and found their marriage
Marriage: 26 Mar 1861 St John, Preston, Lancashire, England
John Witney - (X), 21, Soldier, Bachelor, Fulwood Barracks
Ellen Fletcher - (X), 26, Winder, Spinster, Willow St
Groom's Father: George Witney, Laborer
Bride's Father: John Fletcher, Flagger & Slater
Witness: William Southworth, (X); Elizabeth Parry, (X)
Married by Banns by: D. F. Chapman, Curate
Register: Marriages 1860 - 1861, Page 118, Entry 236

John was born 1842 in Moreton Corbet and in 1881 is a PENSIONER ( Army ) - so has obviously been pensioned off through injury as he is only 39 - it looks like a little fib saying 21 at the marriage ...
George Whitney born Moreton Corbet as well

Robert Whitney can be found on the 1911 Census (cannot post details - policy) but now in the Army.
FindMypast has details of a Robert Whitney's medal card (transcription only), Shropshire Light Infantry. The regiment named links the the 1911 Census record.
-
There's a 1939 record for a Robert Whitney - year of birth fits the 1888 on census records.
Marriage (GRO)
Robert Whitney, Jun Qtr 1916, Atcham, 6a 1407 and Ethel J Jones
Marriage (FindMyPast transcription)
Robert Whitney and Ethel Jane Jones, 25 May 1916, Shrewsbury.
Ethel's father is named (Richard) but not Robert's. Robert appears to have retained his birth surname - therefore not sure whose name he would have recorded. (absence of father's name on transcription could indicate deceased).

Wow. Thank you for all the information. I appreciate your help.
That marriage and information on Robert helps.
Have a good day.
