Hi , I have details of a marriage before 1837 #1833 to be precise how can I find out the grooms' parents names, as I have hit a brick wall
-
Look for his baptism; if he appears on 1851 census it should show his birthplace.....or where he thought he was born.
If you are really lucky you might find an elderly parent living with him!
-
Possibly a mention of the groom's/bride's father in a marriage notice in the local newspaper.
-
You could always give us the details in case we can help :)
-
Is it George pippard marrying in montacute, free reg has a couple of pippard families baptising children in Montacute, but no George in the right timeframe.
Mike
-
George pippard born about 1813 - 1816 married Emma Stagg august 1933
witnesses were john Stagg and I think Anne Stagg married at st Catherine's Montacute
that is all I have that I am sure of.
-
George, aged 39 in 1851 has PoB on the '51 Census as Montacute.
FindMyPast has a baptism (transcription only) for a -
George Pippard, bap 4 Feb 1816, Norton under Hamdon (just south west Montacute), parents James and Priscilla.
-
Thanks everyone for your help , the Norton sub Hamden baptism could be my George , but I am a little apprehensive is it him
-
Did he name any children James or Priscilla?
-
On the 1861 Census, George Pippard gives PoB as "Norton sub Hamdon" and calculated year of birth is 1816 (aged 45)
-
No family with him in 1861 but 1851 and 1861 occupations consistent ie."tiler"
-
There is an 1851 entry for a George Pippard bn Norton - married Caroline Gill in East Coker in 1844.
When he married he was a bachelor - father James
-
1861 Emma Pippard is a widow - sister Lydia Stagg is with her
RG09 /1642 f158 p17
-
Does this mean we can eliminate the Norton baptism :-\
-
I think the Norton baptism looks like the only one that will fit, but no children named james or Priscilla in his family
I think it looks like he died between 1851 and 1861 as emma is widowed on the 1861 census
-
I don't think the Norton baptism is your George. I think it is the George bn Norton who married Caroline and is still alive in 1871. The marriage for George and Caroline names Georges father as James.
-
There's an 1821 baptism in Montacute for a George Pippard, parents John Pippard and Amey - father a mason.
Date of birth not present (not unusual). Need to find when this couple wed.
There's an 1808 marriage.
-
There is a burial of an 18 year old George Pippard, 6 May 1836, Montacute. Could be the 1821 baptism.
-
1821nbaptism looks a bit late as he married in 1833
-
amy shoel married john pippard in 1808
-
I was trying to establish a possible late baptism - in the absence of a date of birth on the baptism.. The 1821 George's parents married 1808 - hence a late baptism was possible. However, I suspect the 1821 baptised George is the George that died Montacute, 1836, aged 18.
In 1841 the George with Emma is aged 30 (YoB range c.1807-1811)
In 1851 the George with Emma is aged 39, born Montacute (YoB c.1812)
There is a GRO death for George Pippard, age 47, Dec Qtr 1857, Yeovil, 5c 351 (YoB c.1810)
In 1841 the George with Caroline is 20 (YoB range c. 1817-1821)
In 1851 the George with Caroline is 36, born Norton (YoB c.1815)
In 1861 George Pippard (no family), born Norton sub Hamdon is 45 (YoB c. 1816)
In 1871 the George Pippard with Caroline is 54, born Norton sub Hamdon (YoB c. 1817)
GRO death George Peppard, age 57, Dec Qtr 1872, Yeovil, 5c 316 (YoB c.1815)
So, still looking for a baptism for the Montacute born George!!

George and Emma's first child called John on 1841 census
