I am looking for any information that I can find on my Great grandmother Hattie Carr. She was born October 1863 and died September 1, 1920. My great grandmother was buried in Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland. I would like to know where she was born (City, State) her parents names, if she had any siblings and where was their last locations and if there could be any relatives still living.
-
Hello
Is Carr her maiden name or her married name?
Bev

Mt. Auburn Cemetery appears to be an African American Cemetery, so can I assume she was black?
Cemetery records have birth year as 1884 with same DOD as mentioned.
Is this her?

Do you have names of any of her children or her husband? That might help to lead to a maiden name or places where she lived.
-
Carr is my great grandmothers maiden yes she was African American. I do believe that this is the same person. She did marry a Joseph J. Moody. I have no idea why she was buried under her maiden if this is really her. She had three children: Veronica Moody (my Aunt), Joseph J. Moody, Jr. (my Uncle), and William T. Moody (my grandfather).
-
Do you know where she was born? Maryland?
Edit: Oops, sorry. I see that is what you are looking for.
-
So this is Joseph, Hattie and family in 1910? Hattie was born in Maryland and says her parents were as well.

Thank you your information was very helpful.
-
Joseph and Hattie did not marry until 1906 so you need to find out if the children are just his or just hers or their children together.

You really need to see the documention for that marriage to get more information about Hattie.

Do you have information to support that the Hattie Carr who died in 1920 is yours? I've seen birth dates that were off on gravestones, but that seems really far off.
It might help to look at any marriage or death records for your grandfather and his siblings, so you can see who are listed as their parents. Since the 1910 census says Joseph was on his 2nd marriage, I agree that they may have a different mother than Hattie.

"I've seen birth dates that were off on gravestones, but that seems really far off."
It's possible that the birth date was misread from the tombstone or mistranscribed - maybe it was really 1864.

At any rate, according to the 1910 census, Hattie had three children, all of them still living. If Joseph Jr., William and Annie were not her children, then there must have been three other children somewhere from a previous relationship. But I think it's most likely that they were Hattie's children born out of wedlock before her marriage to Joseph Moody.
Joseph and William seem to have been living with their grandfather in 1900. His name was Isaac Ford and he must have been the father or maybe the stepfather of their mother. So, who was Isaac Ford and was he related to Hattie Carr? Or, if not, who was his daughter?
Isaac Ford, military [Civil War] pension

Thank you all so much for the information you found on my possible relatives. I am going to take some time and look it over to see if the information is truly my relatives. I look forward to any other information you might find that could be helpful to me.
Again thank you so much.

I'm really, really confused, but these Wheatleys are somehow connected.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-DCNS-FVD?i=18&cc=1325221
At the top of the page is Joseph Moody, supposedly married but living alone. And at the bottom of the page is the Wheatley family, headed by Raymond Wheatley. I guess Raymond's wife Annie must be Joseph Moody's sister. The family includes a kid named Moody Wheatley and also old Jennetta Moody who was Joseph Moody's mother.

There are lots of Baltimore city directories here:
http://baltimoregenealogysociety.org/BaltoDir.html
Some of these people can be found at least some of the time - Raymond Wheatley, for example, who had a well established printing business, and William Moody. I can't see any sign of Hattie Carr, though.
