I have some copies of Certificates of Discharge for my ancestor who was a sailor.
Under 'Description of Voyage or Employment' some of them say 'Rg greet'.
I've managed to work out most of the entries but am stuck with this. I wondered if it meant something like arrangement agreed? Any help greatly appreciated.
The same certificate has under 'Capacity', 'Bsn alpo'? Bsn obviously must mean Boatswain, but what could the second part mean? The previous certificate he was Able Seaman, the next certificate he was Boatswain. Thanks

Was he RN or merchant navy? Might have a bearing on what things mean?
re the alpo - could it have been for Acting Leading Petty Officer?

Merchant Navy, Dawn. Those certificates are dated 1898 if that helps.
The one that also says 'Bsn alpo', is for the SS Achilles official number 51181 registered South Shields, reg tonnage 898, Horse Power of Engine 130.

Silly me - didn't read the topic title properly :P :P :P
Not sure if the Merchant Navy had Petty Officers ???
Hopefully Seaweed will be along to throw light on the subject :P :P

'Bsn alpo' possible "Boatswain Assistant Leaning Petty Officer."

Do you have the part of the actual document? Sometimes we guess at words we can't make out but the context is very important. So I would like to see the document please?
There is no rank or rate in MN/RN 'Acting Leading Petty Officer' or 'Boatswain Assistant Leading Petty Officer'.

Thank you so much!
I've never heard of lamp trimmer, but then I don't know a lot about the Merchant Navy at all. Off now to try to look it up.
Thanks again.
