My Grandfather, Jack Thomas Pearce, was born in or around 1901 in Dover, Kent, England. He came to Canada around the time of WW2. I am trying to find any record of a marriage between granddad and a woman named Florence Skinner. My mother believes the marriage took place in Montreal, perhaps in the Unitarian church, but it could also have taken place in England or in Ontario.
Would appreciate any help.

There is this marriage, could she have been previously married :-\
Marriages Dec 1926
Harris Florence E (spouse Pearce )
Pearce Jack T (spouse Harris)
Dover 2a 2608
Jack is still in England in 1939

Right man, but this was his first marriage (to my Grandmother). Both wives were named Florence.
Grandma & Grandpa were divorced and she went on to remarry. I found that marriage record, so that confirmed that they were, in fact, legally divorced.
I remember hearing that churches here, in Canada, would not marry a divorced person. So if he did actually marry Florence #2, it would have had to be civil or in a Unitarian church.

Where and when did they divorce
-
I don't have exact dates but I believe it was sometime in the early to mid 1940's, in England. I have no idea how to get the details on the divorce.
-
Where and when did his first wife remarry :)
I doubt you will get much information on the divorce if records are available, I was just after a date and Country ;D

They were married 27 December 1926 in London.
-
That was Florence Harris first marriage, when did she marry again
-
Could this be her second marriage Oct-Dec 1944 Lewisham London ?
Florence E Pearce
Walter D Winters

That looks promising Rosie, thank you. That puts any divorce / remarriage from around 1939 as they both appear to be 'married' pre WW2 though not together
-
Yes, that's her. So now I know they divorced before 1944. Progress.
-
According to the National Archives very few divorce records survive for that period

Rosie guided me in helping me order my Greatgrandfather's death certificate. I am hoping it will arrive today or early next week. Once I have it, I will resubscribe to Ancestry so I can continue with the tree I have there. I really hope to track down more info on their divorce and his remarriage (assuming one even took place).

The death certificate arrived in the mail this morning. Now I have another question.
The cause of death is indicated as: 1(a) Broncho Pneumonia. What might the 1(a) notation mean?
-
Hi Kim,
The cause of death codes were revised over the years. This site has a lot of information that will hopefully help you:
