I have a g.g.g. grandfather Henry Yates born to Alice Yates in Inkberrow and baptised according to IGI/Familysearch on October 10, 1807. He, according to Familysearch had a younger sister Maria also born to Alice Yates.
I have had no problem fully documenting Henry from birth to death and exactly the opposite with Mariam who of course could be Maria or Miriam etc.. I cannot find her under any of the possible names in 1841, nor marrying anyone nor dying.
I wonder if anyone can suggest other approaches?

Do you know what happened to Alice? Tracing her forward may lead onto her daughter.

I found an Alice Yates on the 1841 census -spelt Gates but corrected to Yates. She was 65 years old and living in Inkberrow, so looks like she never married. Born approx. 1776. In Inkberrow also a Mary Yates who was buried in July 1811, doesn't say how old she was, but could account for why you have been unable to find her. Also later on in years a Mira Yates-Inkberrow married a George Colley 12/12/1860 so could also be a family member.
regards.

Very prompt so thank you! I should have mentioned I had the Alice Yates 1841 census entry but I did NOT have the 1811 death so I think you may be right - the poor lass never made it to puberty.
The Mira Yates I have all the way to her death and that of her husband . He was 94, she 83, they'd had 15 children and according to the 1911 census eleven had died. Hard times...
Presumably then if I simply look up a Mary Yates death it will appear. Thank you again.

1841 Census has Alice not born in County.
Possible Marriage for Alice 26 September 1849 Inkberrow to Samuel James.
1841 we have under Sames;
Samuel James 65
William James 35
Alice Yates 65

For some reason 1851 Alice James is down as Harriet James born c 1775 Gloucester, Pebisoith

So looks like Alice did Marry Ken and M/C will confirm her Fathers name/occp but it all looks good to me.

Trish,
Only just got back to this and am astounded! I haven't as yet checked but can't see why you aren't correct.
At a stroke you've pushed me back when I thought it would be impossible.
I've also seen that Ancestry has released millions of Danish records so I'll be busy for some time.
Sometimes I think I'm not very clever but luckily you and Rootschat have rescued me.
Thanks!

Trish,
Just done some very preliminary checks - not knowing much geography. It seems that Pebworthis only 14.2 miles from Inkberrow which is childsplay in the eighteenth century for individuals moving around. It strengthens the case I think for Alice having moved from there.
Next stop will be the GRO.
I'm a happy man.

Will do if I remember - but nothing for a fortnight - Death+marriage certs ordered but I'm away for two weeks.
Alice seems seems to have had TEN siblings.

As promised see below:-
Very tardy but the marriage certificate of ALice Yates and Samuel James arrived an hour ago. Marriage took place on September 26, 1849.
He is 75 and she 74.he a widower (a labourer) and she a spinster. Both reside in Inkberrow. His father was also Samuel James occupation farmer whilst hers was Robert Yates who was also a labourer.
Marriage was in the parish church after banns, and the vicar officiated.
Witnesses both illiterate, are William and Esther Gilbert
I've had a quick look in the 1851 census and there are a William and Esther Gilbert living at Cleeve Prior some ten miles from Inkberrow.
Her death certificate has her dying at Inkberrow on Oct. 30th 1857 aged 84. She is a widow, husband Samuel was an Ag. Lab. Cause of death Natural Decay. Present at death was a neighbour Thomas Davis who registered the death on November 3rd 1957.
The 1851 census has William Davies, Henry Yates (Alice's son) and George Ballard - father-in-law of Henry all in adjacent housing. So a very closely knit group I think.

Hi Ken,
That was worth the investment :)
Yes they do look like a close knit Family as you say.
So Baptism for Alice Yate looks good.
As you say Familysearch has children to a ROBERT/MARY Yate (1 under Yeat) at Pebworth 1756-1779
Sorry cant find a Marriage or Burials for Robert/Mary with on line ressources.
Trish :)
