Title: tracking down relatives of Poole Warhero Albert William Cox
Post by: Ad van Zantvoort on Saturday 30 June 18 14:23 BST (UK)
For a proposed RAF memorial(to be unveiled 29th September 2018) I would like to get in touch with the relatives of Airgunner and F/Sgt Albert William Cox from Parkstone,Poole. Albert(21) lost his life when his aircraft a lancaster shot down over Vessem The Netherlands on the 22nd May 1944. I received help from people of the Poole history centre and told me that Albert lived with his family at Runton Road, in Sunninghill,Parkstone. Albert's parents William and Florence(Nee Medway) were married at Bedwelty in Wales 1915. They had two Children Albert(1923) and older sister Mary F Cox born 1919. Mary F Cox married an Alfred G Snook in Bournemouth in 1941 and had a Daughter Frances N Snook, born Poole 1942. Mary F Snook born 1919 died North Somerset. Williams Alberts father was still living at Runton Road in 1951 but sadly his Wife Florence Rose died in 1946, aged 53. Also put appeals in the Bournemouth Echo several times but no luck. Any one could help??

Thank you so much,
Adrian

You could contact the Dorset FHS and ask if any members were researching the family or ask them to put a notice in their journal.

As you know Frances N Snook was born in 1942

A*****y have a nursing record for a Frances Norma Snook in Enfield in 1964, there are also a couple of Electoral Register entries for 1963 & 4, again in Enfield.

May be worth an e-mail to the Royal College of Nursing

regards

Edward

Looking at the entry for Enfield Electoral register address 9 Woodbine Grove Enfield
Alfred G & Mary F Snook also appear to have a son N I Snook
His birth entry registered
1944 Poole Dorset N I N Snook mmn COX ( see entry on FreeBMD for his name) and his marriage
in 1967 www.freebmd.org.uk

I have a slight concern that the people you are looking for & who have been named may still be alive. This may also explain why we cannot find a death for FNS.

Nigel Ian Norman Cox (b1944) died in 2007 and was a reasonably well-known musician.
He had three children (b1971, 1973, 1979) whose marriages, electoral roll entries etc can be found fairly easily.

(His grandmother's maiden name was MUDWAY not MEDWAY.

Hi Richard, Are you sure that those 3 children are definitely Nigel's?
I have a suspicion that at least one (maybe more) belongs to another couple

Fairly sure. They each have the same surname/mmn on their birth entries. There are Electoral Rolls on which some appear with their parent(s) and they appear on each other's Facebook pages. In fact the eldest sibling has only two friends on Facebook: his two siblings.

Ok, you should be fine if they are listed with the correct parents.
FYI there was another couple with the same surnames whose marriage was registered in Wells (Somerset) in 1970. This is where the 1971 birth registration took place as well, but fortunately you seem to have definite proof that this was not the child of this couple.
