Title: James Henry Roberts
Post by: softly softly on Monday 02 July 18 13:29 BST (UK)
Hi, James Henry married 3 times. He first married Annie E E Drain in 1932. They had a daughter Anne in 1933. James then re-marries in 1939 to Maud Mary Cotton Laird. I am not at liberty to post further details about their offspring at this present time. What I am trying to find if they exist are any divorce records, firstly from Annie between 1932-39 and secondly from Maud from 1939 onwards, not sure when he married for the 3rd time.  Any help welcome.

The National Archives have some guidance notes:

James H G Roberts / Annie E E Drain = Dec 1932 Steyning
James H    Roberts / Maud M C Laird = Sep 1939 Tiverton

James H G Roberts / Dorothea Paice = Dec 1939 Penzance ?

Hi, thanks for replies. The marriage certificate to Maud in 1939 details James as the divorced husband of Annie E E Drain. the 1939 marriage to Dorothea seems unlikely but not ruled out. They both appear on the 1939 register but at separate addresses, James at work with a sister and brother and Maud with James's parents.

Ray, appreciate your post, the Cotton comes from her grandmother.

There is a young James H G Roberts in 1939 that may fit that other 1939 marriage  ;)

Hi, further research and contact has revealed the following. There are 4 children born between 1939-49 surname Roberts with the mothers maiden name Laird. All 4 of these children do not have a father recorded on their birth certs but the mother is shown as  Maud Mary Cotton Laird. I'm wondering if James was called up for service in WW2. He was born 20.12.1911, the 1939 register records his birth 20.12.1912-one year later. General question, are there any free web sites to determine whether he was called up and whilst away on service Maud had a relationship and fell pregnant whilst he was away and this then led to a separation some time later.

Thanks

John

WW2 service records are still with the MOD so you are unlikely to find any mention of him.

They both appear on the 1939 register......James at work with a sister and brother

More likely to be living in the home of his brother, sister in law and their first child (redacted).

Hi bxint, you need to have posted on this site I think 3 times before sending a pm. Just post first try, second try and you should then be ok.
