Hello,
Can anyone help with this burial please.
Louis passed away 30/05/1938 at 187,Bury Road ,Salford.
I Would expect him to be interred at a Jewish Cemetery.
I am hoping to find his fathers name,on his gravestone
Many Thanks

Why would you expect to find his father's name on his headstone, unless he was buried in the same grave?
-
If you Google “Jewish cemeteries in Salford” it gives info including contact numbers. You could try ringing those listed to see if they can find a burial
-
He was born 1863 according to his death reg. There is a 1901 entry matching that birthyear but he was single.
Did Louis marry in England?

Thank you.

Usually, parents names are inscribed on the deceased's headstone in Hebrew.

Louis was born in Mariampol, Russia c1863. in 1891 / 1901 and 1911 he is in Leeds with his wife and family. After he was widowed in 1921, he moved to be with his eldest daughter,in Manchester.
i think that I am going to have to contact the cemeteries, as you suggest.
Thanks again

there is no burial for him in Southern,Blackley or Philips, there are quite a few Bernsteins buried in there
in the Jewish sections,

Total long shot but I noticed his brother Nathan is living with him in 1891. Do you know if Nathan married in England as his marriage cert would at least show a fathers name
-
So he s in Blackley Jewish cemetery sadly no photo on Find a Grave

With reference to the mention of Louis and Betsy in Birkenhead, that man looks to have died in 1941.

interesting

I see his wife Betsy is buried In New Farnley
Betsy

There is a Louis Bernstein buried Endfield London,24th January 1938
the record doesnt give an age
and a little to early in the year for yours

Once Again,Thank you.
Radcliff.
Yes, that is Betsey, Louis wife. Like everyone else in the family, she was buried at New Farnley Jewish Cemetery in Leeds. Louis died, in May, 1938. at Salford, whilst staying with his daughter Leah. He is definitely not buried in Leeds.

The Louis and Betsey Bernstein, living in Birkenhead, are a different couple.

Yes, I have now established that I have found the correct Nathan Bernstein, from the 1891 census . There have been awful age discrepancies for him, and I cannot find him in 1901,but I have his marriage in 1904, and I think I will send for the marriage certificate. The name I was given, in Hebrew for his father was Zvi Hirsh, this came from Nathan's headstone. I really wanted to a) confirm this , and b) make sure he was Louis's brother, hence wanting to find Louis's grave.
I want to really get one generation back with the Jewish families. It is proving very difficult . All came from Russia, without parents,it would seem in the 1880's,possibly soon after their marriages in the Old Country, to start a new life. some were not here in 1901/1911, so until the next census comes out ! 1939 register has been a wonderful thing......
I'll keep plodding.
Thanks Again

Hi JeannieR,
Re Birkenhead. It must be your other thread which mentions that couple -same names but I was pointing out that it wasn’t your family.
I wasn’t perhaps very clear.
Hopefully, Nathan’s marriage certificate helps to confirm father’s name.
