Title: Polesworth burial 1891
Post by: stevetewk65 on Monday 02 July 18 16:45 BST (UK)
Hi,

I have a family member (Emma Sarah Humber) who died in Polesworth (Tamworth) in 1891. Is it possible to discover where she would have been buried? I see Polesworth Abbey has burial plots but would that have been the default burial place for locals in 1891?

Thanks for any help

steve

If you would like, I can go and see if there is a headstone.  I'll be home next week (Tamworth) and I can pop down to Polesworth.  Not promising a result, but!!

Thanks BumbleB, I’m hoping to head up that way at the weekend. Wanted to be sure I was wandering in the correct churchyard 😊

There was also an Elizabeth Ann Palmer Humber age 18 buried there 13 April 1891 (Abode Bramcote same as Emma S )

That's a good spot Rosie, thanks.

Emma's maiden name was Palmer and from the 1881 census, she did have a daughter Elizabeth born 1873 so that definitely fits. Same grave presumably?

The church burial register does not list grave plots.

It’s a hopeful wander around then. I found her husband’s grave at Wooton Wawen a few months ago so will cross my fingers 😊

Did you manage to get to Polesworth?  If not, then I'm home now and can pop down there to look.

Hi.

I did. I had a 30 minute methodical wander around the grave yard on Saturday but no luck.

The family were a little transient, the 1891 census is the only time they show in Polesworth (originally from Dorset). I suspect as they were working folk with no local connection no gravestone was maintained or even erected in the first place?

Still, always nice to walk in our predecessors steps 😊
