Title: YATES, Aaron - 1797 marriage to Elizabeth Cadd, Swanbourne
Post by: Seaton Smithy on Friday 06 July 18 03:41 BST (UK)
Hi everyone.

In 1797 Aaron Yates marries Elizabeth Cadd in Swanbourne.

There are online trees that have conflicting birthplaces and parents for Aaron.

I am hoping that a parish record is available in which Aaron names his father.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

I can find the marriage on the Buckinghamshire Marriage Index but no fathers names are given. The witnesses were Edward Anstee and Richard Arnold.

Hi...

Not sure if this is help or hinder but I found this..
Aaron GATES baptised 17 September 1775 father Thomas....
Other births all GATES.. Esther 1763.        William March 17 1765  John May 16 1765.
   Benjamin 1768.   George 1770      Moses 1773      Dinah 1778. Hester & Elizabeth Jan 14 1781.

Marriage Thomas Gates Mary Smith.   Thomas of little Hazeley 16 March 1763.

All are from transcription of parish records but Gates & Yates an error could occur.

The names Benjamin & Moses appear in Aaron's children.

Also the trees list Aaron's death as 1835 again its been transcribed as Gates not Yates.

Have look here..

It's brilliant and they've covered lots.

Thanks tazzie - this is helpful.

Online trees show Elizabeth Cadd's husband as either baptised in Swanbourne 1775 son of Thomas Yates & Mary Smith or alternatively baptised in Fillongley, Warwickshire son of Moses Yates and Sarah Wise.

Unhelpfully for me, both Swanbourne Aaron and Fillongley Aaron have brothers named William about the same age.

I am inclined to think Swanbourne Aaron is the more likely candidate and that some researchers have not found him because of the Gates spelling.

EDIT: I have started a separate post about William Gates/Yates here: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=796404
