Title: Cambridgeshire dead ends
Post by: MacGrigor on Tuesday 10 July 18 15:58 BST (UK)
Hello,

As expected, I've hit dead ends about the origins of the following individuals:

Thomas Boon and Martha Sheldrake (widow), married in Ingham, Suffolk in 1694 (both of Snailwell)
Thomas Hitchinson and Joanna Reynolds, married in Stapleford in 1690
Susannah Cock - married John Hunt of Elsworth in Kingston in 1688
Richard Dodson and Elizabeth Stewart, married in Swavesey in 1751
Henry Murden and Anne Wellington, married in Knapwell in 1694
William Netherwood and Frances Currant, married in Shepreth in 1706
Mary Newman - married Robert Netherwood in Harston in 1743
Oliver and Mary Picking, christening children in Elsworth in the 1720s
John and Ann Scare, christening children in Sawston in the 1690s
Robert and Elizabeth Simpson, christening children in Soham in the 1680s
Philip Stockwood/Stocker and Elizabeth Pickard, married in Swavesey in 1740
John Teat/Tate of Abbotsley who married Mary ? in Great Gransden in 1738
Edward and Elizabeth Towler, christening children in Soham in the 1700s

I'd appreciate any help!

Thanks,

Adam

This may or may not be the right person but there was an Edward Touler baptised 14 November 1667 in Soham parents John and Mary.

Also a marriage in Bottisham of an Edward Taylor and an Elizabeth Brand 2 November 1696.

Bottisham is about 8 miles from Soham.

Thanks! That at least gives some indication of when they would have married.

Further to the baptisms previously found there are also these two

Robert Scare baptised Sawston 21 May 1682 parents John and Ann
John Scare baptised Sawston 17 January 1685 parents John and Ann

Boyds Marriage Index has a marriage in 1680 at St Giles, Cambridge between a John Skear and Ann Lofte
familysearch supplies the day and month as 30 August.

I have seen that record but I don't know. It's quite a way from Sawston but I suppose it's not impossible.

According to Genuki Sawston is 6 miles from Cambridge as the crow flies. I wouldn't call that quite a way.
Also the marriage fits quite neatly with the baptism of the first child in 1682. Choice is yours.

Thanks Geoff! Hoppee is hands-down the most unusual surname I’ve ever heard.
