The above was one of 2 daughters and a son of Frank Cruse 1880-1940 and Elizabeth Mary Waymark 1880-1962; she married Frederick Harold Thomas b 29 Jun 1904 in Q3 1926 Eastbourne, they had 2 children b there 1927/29. Both Edith and Frederick appear on the 1939 register at 8 Victoria Drive, Eastbourne but I can't find any records after that for them?

Two daughters born 1927 and 1929. Have you found any marriages etc for them?
There is a Fred H Thomas death in Solihull in 1963 aged 59 but probably not him
Anything for Frederick on the cwgc site?
-
There is an Edith M Thomas marriage in 1947 Eastbourne to Eustace A Dodd but she may be the Edith Marion Dodd born 1909 who died Eastbourne 1986
-
So CaroleW inconclusive research;problem with daughters is the commonness of their surname.
Cr

with daughters is the commonness of their surname.
Even though they have not quite so common christian names I can't see any marriages in Sussex or any deaths for any of them.
Emigration may be a possibility but can't see anything obvious

Another mystery....

? Another daughter born in Reading in 1942.
In 1945 Frederick H and Edith Mabel Thomas were living at 1 Kearsley Road, Reading.
In 1950 Frederick Harold, Edith Mabel and Hazel Thomas were living at 77 Kenilworth Avenue, Reading.

Well spotted redtonyt-it means that Barbara m or d between 1945 and 1950 but still difficult to find out what happened to the family?
Cr

Possible marriage 1952 for eldest daughter in Reading
-
Thank you CaroleW, makes sense and helps a lot.

I think Frederick died 1956 in Gloucestershire. There is an Edith M Thomas marriage 1964 in Gloucestershire to Bertie S Thorn. There is an Edith Mabel Thorn death in Essex but birth details do not match
There is a Bertie Samuel Thorn death 1983 Bristol - he was b 1901
-
You could be right CaroleW but there appears to be no death record for Edith?
Cr
-
The 1964 marriage cert would show whether it was the right Edith M Thomas so you would then know for certain that she remarried
Unfortunately nothing on the probate website for either Bertie or Edith
A big IF - but if either of the daughters emigrated she may have joined them. If she did re-marry then she would have been in her 80’s when Bertie died
-
Unfortunately, CaroleW, Edith is a very distant relation and I can't afford to splash out on certificates for her; just have to hope that someone else reads our posts and knows more.
Thank you for your research and thoughts.

Thank you jonw65, every little bit helps but the plot thickens as to her whereabouts after 1939?
Cr
-
In 1945 Frederick H and Edith Mabel Thomas were living at 1 Kearsley Road, Reading.
In 1950 Frederick Harold, Edith Mabel and Hazel Thomas were living at 77 Kenilworth Avenue, Reading.
F H Thomas is in the 1942 phone book at 1 Kearsley Road
1955 electoral register has - still at 77 Kenilworth Avenue - Edith Mabel Thomas, Frederick Harold Thomas (juror), and another Thomas, I believe the younger of the two daughters born in Eastbourne (she was S for service voter)
That younger Thomas was still listed there in 1956 (still as a Service voter), but no Frederick or Edith.

Thank you jonw65, where did you find the 1955/56 results? I can't find them?
Cr
-
Hi
I was going through them myself year by year. Ancestry haven't indexed every year, they should have done 1955 though?
Anyway, if you find them in 1950, and then when you get the image, click on 1950 on the screen you get a drop down list of years.
Or, alternatively, use "browse this collection", select Reading and scroll down to 1955 (Wards in Reading constituency)
They are on image 240 of 244
And for 1956, that address is found on image 239 of 242.
So, sometime around 1955 we have lost them. I think the eldest daughter - if she married a Smith - may later be in Windsor.

Superb research jonw65 who'd have thought they'd have gone to Scotland?
Cr
-
It's often the last place we think of! Perhaps because they were both from the south of England.
But very happy to find them!
John

Perhaps they had relations there or had holidayed there before?
