I would like to give a huge thanks to everyone who helped.

I came back at the weekend from visiting my grandfather's grave in Sandpits cemetery, near Bethune. We stayed in Ypres and visited a few more WW1 sites; a big thank you too to all those who help to keep the CWGC sites so well cared for and pretty with flowers.

Sandpits is a lovely peaceful cemetery, off the beaten track on a hillside overlooking fields.

But better still, with the help of people in my previous thread I'd been able to identify the location of my grandfather's regiment on the night he died, and when we went to the area, we found what I am sure is the remains of the actual trench in which he was killed; overgrown in places but still very clear.  Seeing the preserved trenches in the Sanctuary Wood museum the next day cemented my impression that we had found the "real thing", from their dimensions.

This was a very special find and I couldn't have done it without RC - so thank you, thank you, thank you!
