I know this isn't what you have asked for -- but her actual Death Certificate is on the Ancestry site. Have you seen that?
-
It looks like she died in Windham Co., Vermont, not New Hampshire, but her usual residence was No. Walpole, New Hampshire.

Oh dear. That is so tragic.
From a genealogy point of view (and I don't mean this to sound heartless - which it does) -- such a lot of information in those links. Sandra - your surname must be 'Marple'!!
-
lol..................not quite. :)
Still trying to find out if they did find Hugh, surely must have, I must be missing it. :-\
Thread was acknowledge on Canada. https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=842012.msg7084831
Sandra
-
Oh good (re the acknowledgement).
Do you mean that you are still looking for a newspaper article regarding the discovery of Hugh or am I misunderstanding you?
Yes you would think there would be an article. He was found, otherwise he couldn't have been declared as deceased for a number of years. (It's 7 years in the UK - not sure about other countries).
-
Yes, I was hoping to find something that said they had found Hugh.
Seven years does seem to be the most common period before declaring someone dead, after a diligent but unsuccessful search. Its listed on this link.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presumption_of_death#:~:text=It%20takes%20twenty%20years%20to,can%20be%20declared%20legally%20dead.
Sandra
-
Sandra - maybe they didn't print his name and just published something like 'Body found in woods' or the like.
As you say - because they had published him as missing, you would have thought the discovery would have been in the newspaper.
I can only say 'very well done' again on all your hard work with this - you have done an amazing job already for the original poster.

The family must have had to wait until Jessie Durward passed away (25 April 1942) to probate the will of Hugh.
