Title: Isaac Henry Neale
Post by: Bill and Kay on Tuesday 17 July 18 08:17 BST (UK)
Hello I am seeking some guidance as well as any suggestions in regards to my 2nd Great Grandfather Isaac Henry Neale:
I have him married twice; once in 1846 Dulwich London to Elenora, Maria, Caroline Tyler and again in 1851 in Northampton to Ann York
So is he a bigamist or do I have two people of the same name with the same father who have the same trade (Currier)? Any help will be appreciated; I have been unable to locate him in the 1851 census other than a comment in the 1851 census from Hellen Neale (Ellen) that I think states "deserted by husband"
So please if you can help I would value your assistance Bill Neale   (Post 2)

Thanks Louise,
Yes that's my Great Grandfather, thank you, the Isaac Henry is the one who has been hard to find after his weddings, I am wondering if he moved, went overseas, or died ?

Yes, I have been looking in the 1841 census for Isaac hoping to find him with his father John but no luck so far. Did you have a look at the marriage Banns and do you have an opinion as to if its the same person?

For what it's worth - two entirely different signatures.  :-\

Yes, I thought the same but the coincidences are too compelling for me to discount them, Isaac is Currier on both certificates, his father is a carpet weaver on both certificates and I cant find Isaac after 1851' so the search goes on
Thank you for checking :)

There is a baptism for
Elinor Maria Caroline Tyler
father John a turner
born looks like 19/03/1821
at St Mary Newington

This would make her an adult by 1846 marriage

or have I got it wrong

There is a family tree on Ancestry, might be worth a look at

Just a matter of interest really but I have a cert here dated 1866 Lambeth witness Gawlor same as on Isaac's first marriage, he must have been a church warden or someone lurking to make a few pence by being a witness

There seems to be a baptism record
14th July 1854
Newington
Isaac Charles Neale son of Isaac and Eleanor Maria Caroline Neale
Resident Bulls Head Court
Fathers occupation Currier
I can t find this child on freebmd or in Gro indices

If Isaac remarried an Ann why would the child have previous mothers name? Or was he baptised later in life

Think I found a marriage for Isaac Charles 1881 aged 26,   that fits in with baptism, father shown as " gentleman" Dec'd, (prev reply)

On ancestry Isaac Henry Neal  is shown as died in 1857 , not found him as yet,  ( away from  my computer), perhaps he used just Isaac

Great work, thank you, I have seen some of the above but I was not sure I could take them as agreed
Re the late baptism for Charles, I was not baptised until 1983 at the request of my daughters, so perhaps it was a similar situation

If you can find anything out about Ann York I would be grateful, it was strange that her father is James Chamber, perhaps she was married previously or took her mothers name

1851 census taken 30/02/1851

marriage to Isaac Neale 21/04/1851

so we must be either looking for Ann York or Ann Chambers 1851

No  luck so far

Looking on your previous posts you do seem to have information about the Neale family

George shown as 5 months on 1851 census, doesn't appear to have been registered and so far no baptism for him

Louisa Maud

Unfortunately  this family seem to change their Christian names at will

Hi Louisa,
Yes I agree about the name changes, my father was Alfred Charles and yet every one called him William (Bill) go figure? I think because he had a brother who died at a very early age

I have a tentative Burial date for George Neale as 26/10/1853 aged 3-years; the address as given is Bullhead Court, Newington, St Peters Walworth Reference Page 80 / 640
Regards
Bill

1851 census taken 30/02/1851

marriage to Isaac Neale 21/04/1851

so we must be either looking for Ann York or Ann Chambers 1851

That's interesting, how do you know the date of the census, is it listed somewhere?
I have Isaac's father's birth place as St Pancras 1805, parents Chas & Ann, Camden London, but perhaps he came from Northamptonshire and that's why Isaac ended back there for the 1851 wedding
These Neale's sure know how to make life difficult!!

The dates of the censuses were as follows:

1841 – 6 June.
1851 – 30 March.
1861 – 7 April.
1871 – 2 April.
1881 – 3 April.
1891 – 5 April.
1901 – 31 March.
1911 – 2 April.

Sorry I actually made a mistake and typed 20/02/1851 instead of 30/03/1851

Well done on lateral thinking, I have never thought about googling the possible dates of the census, it is worth knowing, thank you
