Title: can anyone help please
Post by: Shar10 on Wednesday 18 July 18 13:23 BST (UK)
Hi, I have been helped on here researching my family and wondered if anyone could help again, I am looking for a George Sinclair Hall who lived in Manchester but we discovered he was actually born in Scotland. about 1885-86.
we have a birth registration for his sister Barbara born 1st April 1884linlithgow dalmeny  we assume George was born in the same place their parents were George  Hall and Elizabeth Sinclair married in November not sure if 1883 or 84. her mother was called Margaret could have been Gunn.
we have looked on ancestry .co that's where we got most of our info also on scotlands people as someone kindly looked on there for us, we have since registered with Scotlands people but haven't yet found anything that matches and  it could cost a lot of money to go through them all.its a long shot I know but hopefully someone more experienced than me could find something however small we would be very thank full.

Not seeing a Hall/Sinclair marriage that fits. Did this take place in Scotland?

Do not trust anything you find online, and especially on Ancestry and similar sites, unless it's an image of an original document.

Thats a good find Isobel - I have to say I did wonder if that was a possibility he would have been born after his sister Barbara
we have a birth registration for his sister Barbara born 1st April 1884 linlithgow dalmeny

If this is the correct death entry the dob matches the baptism record you have posted

George Sinclair Hall Death Age:   84
Birth Date:   3 Mar 1886
Jun 1970 Manchester Lancashire
Volume:   10e Page:   131

Edit ~ Sharl10

Did your George marry  Alice F Whaite in 1915?

From Lancashire BMD
HALL   George Sinclair
WHAITE   Alice Florence
1915 Chorlton-on-Medlock Register Office or Registrar Attended

Did they have a son born Sep qtr.1918?
Hall    John A    mmn Whait    Chorlton    8c   1180

Do you have the family on the 1891 census?

Can you give more details of George Hall & Elizabeth nee Sinclair's dau Barbara's 1884 birth/baptism

What was her father George's occupation?

When/Where did George Hall die as Elizabeth is a widow on 1901 census

In which case you have incorrect information. Barbara was born on 15 November 1884 and her parents claim to have been married on 1 April 1884. However there is no such marriage in the index at Scotland's People.

The subsequent registration of George as illegitimate suggests that the marriage never actually took place.

I wonder if choosing April 1st as the date of marriage was intentional!

thank you everyone for their replies.thank you Forfarin for the warning I have read the post, we were beginning to think George juniors parents didn't get married as we cannot find any record of the marriage, but his name was George Sinclair Hall so maybe the marriage took place later or he was just given his fathers nme. although his sister Barbara was born first and she was Barbara Hall.
yes George junior did die in Manchester and he did marry Alice Whaite and they had a son John.
we do not know  George seniors occupation for sure but think he could have been a collier and we do not know when he died. thanks again for all the replies.

The birthdate of George S Hall in the 1939 register ( with wife Alice F)  matches that on the 1970 death of George Sinclair Hall found by Ladyhawk and also the date on the 1886 Dalmeny birth certificate for George Sinclair.

we have a birth registration for his sister Barbara born 1st April 1884 linlithgow dalmeny

Birth registration  ???

This implied you had a birth cert. which doesn't help people trying to help if they don't actually know what source you're using i.e. not a birth cert. but something else.

It's always best to quote what you actually have to further your research  ;)

The birthdate of George S Hall in the 1939 register ( with wife Alice F)  matches that on the 1970 death of George Sinclair Hall found by Ladyhawk and also the date on the 1886 Dalmeny birth certificate for George Sinclair.

for info.

Probably death for George’s wife Alice, the cemetery section and grave number are the same as for the 1970 death entry for George Sinclair Hall

Alice Florence Hall age 83
Burial Date:   18 Jan 1973
Burial Place:   Manchester, Greater Manchester, England
Cemetery:   Gorton Cemetery
Cemetery Section:   G
Grave Number:   216
England & Scotland, Select Cemetery Registers, 1800-2016

On death registration index gives Alice's dob 4 Nov 1889,

If you search FreeBMD there are other Hall births registered in Chorlton/Manchester S
with mmn Whaite between 1916 - 1934
