Donald MacLauchlane emigrated from Perthshire to McNab township, Ontario, in 1834. Most of his sons (Thomas b 1798, married with children) and daughters went with him.

At the home of Mr and Mrs Robert Thompson of Brussels, Ontario on June 29, 1920, their sister Margaret Stewart McLaughlan married Ambrose K Zapfe of the Royal Bank of Canada, St. Catharines. It says that the bride was given away by her brother Mr R J McLaughlan. The wedding march was played by her sister Mrs Thompson.
